Being pretty new to slot collecting I started wondering if there was any significant preference for cabinet designs.  I've had a couple people say the round tops are more desirable which I'm assuming is just for the looks?  So how much does the cabinet type weigh in you choice of buying games?  If so, how much difference does it make in the price you would pay?

Also, a quick look around the casino tonight and it seems they tend to have more slant tops. which got me wondering if the casinos have any preference for a particular design?  My guess is it wouldn't be a big factor but maybe someone here who is closer to the industry can give some insight.

The round top is the most desirable of the machines.

Uprights are easier to move than a slant top, but normally they must be on a stand, table, or shelf.
Uprights have a slightly smaller footprint than slant top and also weigh less than a slant top.

Okay, it looks like I have my names wrong.  I thought slant top was a standard upright with a flat top instead of round but apparently slant tops are the stand alone floor models.  Sorry, my background is arcade games and pinball machines, and just got my first slots a few weeks ago.

I think it all comes down to personal preference. I personally like the 9" tops better than a 16" top or a round top but it does seem like most people favor the round top design. I personally think the larger tops make the machine look bulky. I also have two slant tops which are a whole different animal  :30-

Whether it's round top, chop top (9"), or 16" is purely personal preference.  I'm with crgadyk, I prefer a chop top.  If you plan on converting the game often (changing themes), you may want to get a round top or 16" just so more glass is available for it.

I'm a round top guy...always will be.  I like jukeboxes and they kinda remind me of these.  *shrug* 

16" are too massive for my tastes and chop tops don't have enough room on the glass to accomplish the "cool look" factor.  Slants are the least favorite of mine...for slots.  I do enjoy playing this design with Game Kings from a "comfort" perspective, but from a "looks" perspective, give me a Game King upright any day.

I like 16" as a preference  love the big screen glass look also like round tops I  think there is more glass for round and 9" chop tops.  that's why i own then all . I cant get enough machines to satisfy my addiction  always want a new game.  slants eat up to much space and have limited glass to show off slots charactor . just my opinion but will stand behind it

Sorry doodily doods, but a 9" is not a "chop top".
A chop top has no top, and has the the award glass in the belly.
I've been wanting to open this can of worms for awhile, to see what squirms out.

A 9" is a chop top. The games without the tops are called lowboy...

Believe each manufacture has a name for the short slot machine. Bally calls them lowboy, Universal calls them Type-D, not sure what the official IGT name is? Choptop?

IMO the best looking machine is an upright roundtop with a matching topper.

The best machine to actually play for a long period of time is definitely the slant top. When I play a GameKing at the casinos the uprights get uncomfortable and there always seems to be a glare issue from other slots and lights. Slant tops are just more comfortable.

Slotsdirect calls it the "club" model. Very simple, take out the top box, place the award glass in the belly. No candle. And laminate the top ( leave openings for the fans and such) Nice way to cut down on weight and space or if you can't find the complete glass kit for a rare theme. Call it a "club" model. LOL
