Title: 1989 IGT PE+ Bill Acceptor. Where to find?
Post by: Hemiman426 on December 19, 2008, 04:22:45 PM
Hi everyone,

Ok, now that I'm on track to having fixed most of my issues with my 1989 IGT Video Poker PE+. I would like to investagate the possibility's of adding a Bill Acceptor. What manufactures work? What should I expect to pay for one? What would be a good source for buying one?

Thanks again.

Mike

The JCM DBV 145 and JCM DBV 200's are what were shipped with the machine.

The 145 does not support the new colored 10's and are obsolete. These you can pick up cheap.

The 200 is superior as it can do all by the new $5.00 and they accept bills 4 ways where as the 145 was rather limited in its bill orentation.

The newer JCM WBA 11 and WBA 21 can be made to work in the PE+ however I don't beleive the code for the new $5 has been released for the S+ or PE+

So.... if you are not going to be able to get an upgrade to the WBA (or the DBV200) I am not sure if I would shell out the bucks for the newer WBA platform.

Jay,

Thanks for the reply. So after reading your post, I’m looking at the DBV 200. How many components will I need? (Bill Acceptor, Bill Bezel, Wiring Harness?) How does a bill acceptor interface with the main mother board of the PE+? Also, will I have to cut a hole for the bill acceptor to fit into the machine, or do I take the glass out on the right hand side, just above the coin slot?

Thanks again.

Mike

Best to buy a complete side mount box, the imbedded games had an opening in the door for the bill bezel, it was very common for PE+ to have side mounts as they lasted years after the were installed on the casino floor, we still get some side mount PE+ in from time to time even now

Blue,

Thanks for the reply. Will the side mount Bill Acceptors accept the new colored bills? Also, If I get a side mount, how does it interface to the machines Mother Board? Where would I find a side mount Bill Acceptor and the wiring harness?

Thanks
Mike

A side mount box is just the housing that holds the BV, it would have the same validator as a imbedded machine (a DBV 145 or 200) the software would determine the bill acceptance, the newest bill would be the colored 10 for the PE+, the wires would hook up to the motherboard from a harness to the box through a hole drilled in the side of the machine, you would need a Set Chip as well to activate the Validator

Mike-

As I recall from the pictures of your machine you posted, you don't have a slot for an embedded validator -- you'll need to get the side-mount one for your machine.

Generally speaking a DBV has the following parts.

1. HEAD with bezil
2. Transport
3. CashCan
4. Power Supply
5. Harness

If the door does not have a cut out for a dbv you would probably want to go for a side acceptor.
These side units are usually sold parts complete +/- the wiring harness.
The wiring harness I beleve connects to the outside of the MPU cage

The DBV145 and DBV200 heads are interchangeable. I would speculate that the reason you see a lot of the traditional units for sale in peices is that a number of people just upgraded their heads. Depending on the platform (as these were used in more than just IGT) you had different bezils. Even the PE+ and S+ use differnet bezils. In a casino environment Cash Cans are swapped so there are somewhere between 2x and 4x cans for each machine. Also the DBV145 and DBV200 power supplies were almost the same. The 200's had a higher wattage rating and the visible "tell" is that the 200' unit has peferated ventelation.

Personally I think the side mount beasts are kind of like installing a third eye. Not exactly attractive.
I have seen someone take a standard configuration (not side mount) and install it into the slot stand.
Also if the sole purpose is to put on credits you could mount it in the belly as the belly door releases and you could feed it that way.

Now that you are a bit more educated on the platform (yes they are addictive) you could also consider buying one with a validator and liquidating your current unit. We call that a Huck Finn party - you get your neighbor over and have him drooling over your new toy and you give him a "deal" for your current unit that just happens to match the price you have lined up on a new unit from one of the gracious NLG vendors.
