Title: New project, have questions.
Post by: SilverFerret on May 21, 2011, 05:21:00 PM
I just picked this up for $50 and don't know much about it. Can't find a maker and it looks to require some serious clean up. It should be fun to try to get going but I'm not holding my breath.
Does anyone recognize this machine and have any info on it. It would be a great help. Thanks, Jim
P.S. Is $50 a decent price?

Still looking for info on this machine. The inside reel assembly is stamped MLB 2511A.
I've cleaned it up a bit and freed up the reel assembly to the point where it works and pays-out though it seems to payout incorrectly. The reel strips don't match the glass front which indicates that three owls is a payout yet this reel assembly has 8-balls.
I'm wondering if the reels are in proper alignment but someone placed different reel strips that aren't lined up correctly.
Any manuals that would cover this machine so I can take it apart to really clean it up and have some guidance of how to re-assemble it?
Need help. Thanks, Jim

I could be wrong here but,  the castings looks typicality  like it's a Mill Slot Machine Casting. Chicago IL. I don't know the date they stopped  making them.
MB is usually associated with Mills.
There should be more MBL casting marks. I have two Mills machines. one 12/26/35, the other is 1940's, after the war. their are quite a few castings #'s

Looking at the pics, it appears the 8 ball symbals are stickers placed over whatever. Your owl symbals might be underneath. That orange symbal looks like a sticker also

Turns out the 8-balls are stickers but they are covering carriages as in horse drawn carriages with no horses and someone had also covered certain symbols with other symbols on the reel strips. all the cherries on the third reel have been covered probably because cherries are only supposed to be on the first two reel strips. Apparently these are not the correct strips.
How would I find the correct strips or reproductions of the correct ones? And how would I determine where the symbols belong once I have the correct ones?
Thanks, Jim

It's a late model Mills, 2nd half of the 1960s. To determine the order of symbols on the reels, you'll have to examine the holes in the payout disks on the right that the payout fingers drop into. Outer hole, rearmost finger, is cherry; next inner is orange, then plum, bell, jackpot symbols. Owls and bars should have more than one hole, one that they each have for the "pay 20" finger and another one for the jackpot, though since there is no drop jackpot (it's a hand pay) maybe they just have the one.
