Title: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: Slot King on May 22, 2011, 01:23:41 AM I am new to the forum and looking for some help. Just bought the machine in a somewhat working condition. First off I have changed the battery and now have a error that I need to know how to clear. A 12 Metering Error message. Next I believe some of the wiring from the play buttons is not wired to the board on the door correctly. When you press play one line you get four lines, and when you play two lines it will cash out. Does anyone know where each button gets wired to, or where I can get a schematic for this machine. Thanks to all in advance who reply.

Slot King! I don't have much on a 2.5 other than an old 3/5 reeler manual with out schematics. Maybe someone will chime in and help you. In the mean time tell us a little a little about what part of the country you live in, your hobbys how many machines you have, etc. Just go to the Welcome wagon, General Chat, News, Rants, and other stuff and put in the story of your life. :97- Ron (r273) Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: volts1776 on June 01, 2011, 01:11:43 AM Having the same problem on an Aristocrat tens or better video poker machine. After having the machine working perfectly, I changed the battery without having a backup supply in place. THAT'S A BIG NO NO. Codes in orange next to the plays and (metering error see attendant) See the posts at volts1776

2.5 stepper book, maybe this will help. Edit - Didn't get all of the steps see the next post. Paul Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: proten on June 01, 2011, 03:04:56 AM Here is all the steps. :279- :279-
Paul Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: volts1776 on June 07, 2011, 08:04:37 PM I tried the instructions on both pages with no results regarding the message (metering error call attendant) After some experimentation with the power off and the door open, hold the three buttons on the left the jackpot key and the audit key. Then turning on the power, A service screen comes up between a red, green and blue raster. A crosshatch for convergence and a menu to check the hopper, the front panel buttons. But nothing to clear the metering error. There is no reserve button or data button. Those instructions must be for a reel machine and don't relate to a video poker machine. I'll never give up until I get this thing working again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: proten on June 07, 2011, 08:27:24 PM The Memory clear for the 540 MK4 might work.
This is how to do it: First way is: 1. Hold the "Mem reset" while turning on the machine. 2. Hold till the display starts. Second way is with the machine on: 1.Turn the audit Key on and leave it . 2. Open the main door. 3. Turn the jackpot key on and leave it . 3. Press and hold MEM TEST , AUX and ROBO/HOP RESET together. 4. You will see "Memory reset" appear 5. Turn the jackpot, audit key back and close the main door. Hope this helps Paul Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: Heihachi_73 on June 14, 2011, 09:34:34 AM Memory clear for Aristocrat MK2.5 and MK4 machines should be universal, however depending which region the game is from, the initialization procedure may differ. For example, an Australian format machine only needs to be reset with the above procedure, key out and it will coin up.
I am not familiar with a US-spec machine, so I do not know if they require set chips or not. Having worked on MAME with preliminary Aristocrat 540 emulation however, you may need to change the Jackpot Win Limit to a minimum of 200 credits before it will allow you to key back out again. To access the Jackpot screen, key into Audit Mode, and press Service until you reach the setup screen (it should be the fifth text screen after a series of game replay screens. Note that the US-spec games in MAME do not run properly just yet, as the emulation was designed around the Australian version of the gaming machine, of which the hardware is slightly different. Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: palindrome on June 15, 2011, 12:14:18 AM nvram is still holding some data after the battery was changed and the 3 way mem is corrupted.
The nvram chip needs to be wiped completely first. Only way to do that is to remove it for a few minutes. Only then will the above clear procedures work. Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: volts1776 on June 21, 2011, 08:51:18 PM I still haven't located a service manual for the aristocrat MK 2.5. My friend who owns the machine purchased a ram-clear Eprom. Problem is upon receiving the chip there were no instructions or protocol on clearing the memory. The only socket open on the 2.5 board is U8 (labeled) Ram/Eprom. In your last posting you stated none of the procedures of the 2 pages posted could take place until the nvram (non-volatile ram) corrupt data was dumped by removing, waiting and replacing it. Would you happen to know the U-position on the board or the nvram part number? Thanks: eternally patient volts.
Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: palindrome on June 25, 2011, 06:04:51 AM If you provide clear pictures of the board I might be able to help.
There are two screws which hold the video board in place on the 2.5, remove them. The static ram is probably underneath it. On my mark 4 a 32kb static ram chip is used, the part number is UPD43256BCZ-70LL ( NEC ). Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: volts1776 on July 21, 2011, 02:33:59 AM Palindrome, here are the pictures you requested, (better late than never). I found no upd chips by NEC, just a lot of Motorola mc74 multiplex switching ic's and a co-processor under the add on video board that creates the character shapes. My friend is gettin at the end of his rope. since the game was working before we changed the battery. Can't even find someone to help if we offer to pay them !!!
Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: proten on July 21, 2011, 03:15:24 AM We need hi resolution picture.
The picture gets fuzzy when you zoom in. Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: palindrome on July 21, 2011, 07:06:59 AM The 2.5 may be using 2 x 6116 (2kb x 8bit devices ). Each game only requires 4kb of static ram. ( 0x4000 - 0x 4fff ).
Unfortunately the SRAM cannot be removed as the two chips on the CPU board appear to be soldered onto the board ( HYUNDAI chips ). Did you try linking the manual reset jumper LK23 like I suggested in the other thread ? Title: Re: Aristocrat 2.5 Caribbean Gold Post by: volts1776 on July 22, 2011, 03:05:16 AM Here are pictures of all the ic's under the video board. There is no link 23, just link 3 and link 5 under the video board.
