What game are you trying to run?  It sounds like it's looking to talk to an upper LCD screen (for a game like Reel 'Em In, Password, Match Game, Kahuna Cash, Goldfish, Mermaid's Gold, etc.).

Did you install the upper LCD or was it installed and currently working before the game change?

Since you say you have a 19" CRT I'm guessing you don't have a top-box LCD installed.  Alfred Hitchcock is a dual screen game that requires the top LCD to run.  The error you are getting is because it's not there.

I am not the original poster but I do have this same problem on occasion.  I have a dual screen WMS 550 with Pac-Man installed and randomly get the "LCD top box communication failure" message.  Usually I can just restart the machine and it will be fine. Sometimes it pops up right away, other times I can play it for a few hours before that happens. What causes this?

Thanks.

It means the bottom CPU board lost communication with the top box.  I would reseat all the connections between the two and all the chips on both boards, to start.  If it keeps up, clearing RAM may help, or you may have a bad board.

It was pretty common to have these errors on occasion, but yours sounds like a chronic issue.
