To open the head, there are two latches, one one each side of the head. They pull forward just a bit and you can pull the top open. If it's had a few drinks (spilled on it), it can be a bit of a hassle. Lift the top and remove the GUIDE or BILL

If you can remove the bezel without opening the head, the"ears" that hold it in place are probably broken off on either the head or the bezel. DBVs just use screws and don't require the top to be opened.
