i like totally destroyed 3 sb chips  trying to install them on my soundboard  :279- i just cant get them to line up.....what can i use.... :103-

Instead of pushing the chip straight down into the socket...try this technique instead.  Place the chip in at a slight angle such that all the prongs on just one side of the chip are about half way in.  The other half is resting on top of the other side.  With your hands perpendicular to the chip, flex the chip towards you and rock them into the other side.  If any of the prongs are out of alingnment, use a flat head screw driver to tweak them into place so that you can push them all the rest of the way in.  As a rule of thumb, it takes very little pressure to get a chip in, so if you feel resistance as you are putting it in, stop  :81- what you are doing, because you are moments away from busting another chip.  Like all things in life...practice, practice, practice.

dont they have a chip tool that you can use.... i even took out the sound board from the motherboard and i still couldnt get it....  in........im gonna be super carefull this time......

No.  What I want to know is what in the hell could you possibly be doing to the settings to have the need to constantly take the chip out of "that machine".   :279-

Staz  There really isn't any secret other than you need the legs pretty straight before trying to install them..  They make a real fancy tool for bending the legs back in place.  It's called a thumb nail !!  Hold it with one thumb nail and bend it with the other. Another thing I do is if the legs are really out of line is I bend all the legs outward and then place them on a desk top and bend all of them back in line at one time. Try to never bend a leg at the very top, most times it will break off.

Your pic. is not very good, are some of the legs broken off? If you want I will PM you my address and see if I can save the chips for you. 3 new chips will cost you less than 10 bucks with shipping one way.

I'm still trying to figure out why your putting SB chips on a sound board ??

BUZZ  i think STAZ has a enhanced board . the chips are on the top board with the sound simms. WHY he is changing them is another question STAZ i use a bostach staple remover WORKS GREAT

I take this one step further. After putting the first side into the socket and trying the second side, if the pins aren't sitting right, remove the chip and repeat the process the other way, so that you are now starting with the second side. If the pins are slightly, but not too far, out of alignment, this serves to straighten them.

Next, when you have the pins on one side sitting partway into the socket and the pins on the other side resting on the top of the socket, visually check to see if any pins are pushed too far in or out, left or right, and then remove the chip and carefully adjust them manually.

At this point, the pins on both sides should be very close to their needed positions. Again, start with the chip at a slight angle and with one side of the pins slightly inserted. Then lower the other side and move your thumb along the pins to "massage" them into their holes, then gently push down on the top of the chip to insert it, making sure that it's level with the board as you do so.

P.S. If you think IGT machines are difficult, try a Gamemaker.  :58- They use those "precision" brass sockets that won't tolerate any misalignment. The good side is that once the pins on a chip are aligned for those holes, removing and replacing the chip is a snap, as long as one uses the EX-2 extractor that I promote around here. It always pulls the chip straight up without bending any of the pins, so I can slip "well-used" Game maker game and Mains chips back into their sockets very easily. When I buy new games, however, the first chip insertion is always very difficult.

David A Bally is much easier than all that. Get one side lined up and started, then take a credit card and push the legs on the other side into position. No credit card, a players card will also work. ( Drivers lic in a pinch)

I use this EX 4 extractor  (  4 of them in a package= EX 4 )  about 2 bucks at Harbor Fright

i changed my game theme in my machine for a little while..... now i wanted to go back to my original theme...... thanks for all the tips when i get my new sb chip this week  i will follow those steps......

thats the exact board i have...... why would they have that chip in the corner like that i will never understand lol....

And Yes David the SB chip is installed in a Bally style socket !

For you tech types it's known as a Machine Pin Socket, and as Staz points out a pain the the rear end to insert a chip into.

Most games are Key chipped once or twice in the lifespan of a casino life, slots are not designed to be easy for wondering fingers to work on

Here is a solution to your problem, but if you don't pull the Legacy Adapter you will still have issues so you should purchase a pair of quality Duck Bill pliers to straighten the legs, we use the toughest legged Base Chips we have found and still see them bent up, so best to purchase Machine Fit 40 pin Sockets (with Machined Legs not PC legs) and install your Keychips and Base Chips in them and they will stay straight if removed properly with proper tools, I suggest a 4 leg Eprom Remover tool for you and remove the Adapter board each time, now I don't own one, never have, I have a pic of the eprom remover I have used since 1996, only removed one or two eproms though, no matter who you are I am sure you have better or different suggestion on tool to use for removal, just what I use and that is that

Why not just use ZIF sockets like I did on a S+ ? I just plugged them into the regular sockets.

Those 40 ZIF sockets get to be a little pricey.

wouldnt it interferer with with the chip connecton to the board though or would it be like conecting a extension plug......what they should just make is chips with solid non bendable prongs....

I've used them stacked on sockets other than my S+ slot machines and never had any problem. Of course the best way is to solder it in place of the existing socket, but just plugging it into the existing socket should work just fine. So yes, it just acts like an extension.

For anyone thinking of soldering on the Legacy Adapter be careful it is a 6 layer board.

id like to thank everyone on here for your help and thoughts i was able to install my sb chip today pretty easily as i took off the legacy board.......it was 1000 times easier with the board off......
