Title: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: ronr11 on July 07, 2011, 08:41:00 PM Got the color code and pinout from Jack at JCM and a head from Rudy, it will power up but the bills won't load all the way in,stops about 1/2 way.
It also won't stack ,but I figure thats because the bill isn't loading all the way. Can it be the transport is bad? Thanks Ron Title: Re: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: paul on July 07, 2011, 09:42:04 PM what kind of machine and does the head have an eprom or flash look in bottom and see if you see a regular size eprom

Title: Re: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: ronr11 on July 08, 2011, 11:17:47 AM Thanks Paul, The head I got from Rudys has the switches all set off and this is how my original one is set also,This did work at one time till I rewired the 11 pin connector from the transport/stacker. I double checked to make sure wires are correct and checked continuity to each sensor tro make sure they are soldered . Sometimes the bill will go in far enough to add credits but never goes all the way. Ron

Title: Re: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: stayouttadabunker on July 08, 2011, 06:32:16 PM Clean the head's eye optics with a solution of warm soapy water and a Q-Tip.
Do NOT use any alcohol-based cleaners! Also, check the belts and see if they're not full of greasy, gummy black dirt-infested gunk. If so, clean the belts with the same warm, soapy water and a Q-Tip swab. Title: Re: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: ronr11 on July 08, 2011, 08:31:10 PM Hey guys, cleaned and adjusted the belts on the head and transporter, also removed the optics and cleaned them as Bunker suggested still will only go in 1/2 way .Is it possible I'm missing some voltage as the stacker motor won't work, should it reset when the game powers up? There is very little info out there that I've been able to find.I see the motor operates on 24 volts but any idea where to check? Thanks again Ron

Title: Re: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: AnotherTech on July 09, 2011, 02:23:08 AM It sounds like a bad transport. Both the bill head and the transport should go through a power on self test when the game is turned on. If the transport isn't cycling, like it is pushing a bill down, and then come back up, then it may be bad.
Power and signals all come through the head. A bad head can cause the same symptoms, but it's more often the transport, or at least it has been for me. It is much easier to troubleshoot if you have a complete working machine to test things on. Just because you get another part, doesn't necessarily mean it's good, especially when you're talking about 15+ year old stuff. :5- I wouldn't buy another DBV-145. If you need a new head, a DBV-200 is a direct replacement if you have a vented power supply, and is a much better head. (and if you don't have a vented power supply, that is a direct replacement, too) Title: Re: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: ronr11 on July 09, 2011, 11:50:06 AM Thanks guys, the stacker white gear does not turn when I power it up. The head I got from Rudys and it does the same thing as mine. Whats the chance of finding a transport? Ron
Title: Re: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: StatFreak on July 10, 2011, 12:18:58 AM Don't rule out the harness. I've seen such erratic behavior with a harness that had intermittent breaks inside the wires.
Title: Re: Bally 5500 with a 145 Post by: ronr11 on July 10, 2011, 05:12:17 PM Thanks again for all your help, I just took the connectors from the board and the head and tested for breaks and all wires seem ok,Does anyone have any idea what wires (color or pin) that feed 24 volts to the head as the stacker don't run during test or powerup? I supplied 12 volts to the 10 and 11 pins and the motor works .Ron
