Fixed no LEDs, now DBV won't work.
« on: December 26, 2007, 08:37:15 AM »

The machine was working fine a few days ago. Turned it on and no LEDs or button lights, reels did not lock. Sooo this is what I did.

1. Changed fuses and also checked with meter. -OK
2. Pulled CPU, checked for bent pins on bottom. -None
3. Scraped the second pin from the left on the power harness pins on the mother board. -Nope
4. Changed the power harness from the power supply to the mother board.-Nope.
5. Changed the mother board.-Nope
6. Changed the power supply-Yes

Now the DBV will not light up or work. DBV cycles all the way through. This is what I have tried so far.

1. Set options 6 to 5 cents, options 5,8,9 to 1. And rechecked.
2. Set hopper limit to 300, lower jackpot to 5,998, credit limit 9,997 bill acceptor 9,996. (All from SP1271)
3. Changed cash cans, transporters, SP, power supply (vented type for DBV 200) Red lights on head lights up-Nope
4. Checked bulbs and pulled light board and checked for cracks or burns.-None

What did I forget?   hissy fit

What I don't like is having no red led lights on the board ,  but it sounds like it's just not enabled  with the set chip.

Did you try running any of the test on the bill unit itself.

I ran the  bill acceptor lights in the output tests, 26   2. They did not work.

I have not changed out the bill unit yet. It lights up so assume it should work.

<Changed out transporter and bill head together from one machine to the next. Now I have 2 machines that the
  DBV does not work.>

Is the DBV eprom or flash based.  I would try to make sure the eprom is not bad.  Also now you say you have 2 machines that don't work?  Does the DBV that used to work no longer work on the original machine?  I'm thinking bad DBV PS (check voltage output with a meter) on the original non-working machine.

All 3 of my S+ are flash based. The second machine did not work when I put back the original bill validator and the transport. I just re-seated it and it came back. applause
The voltage reading is 12.27/8, on both PS.

have you run continuity tests on the harness from the bill validator to the mainboard?

I run one from the mother board connector to the PS connector, which was OK.

<Also one from the light bezel to the bill validator (2-wires).>

If you in fact did blow out the head you had from the working game I would check the green wires in the area near the cash box that do or did go to the cash box door micro switch, I have seen these be shorted and blow the lower board on the 200 heads

These seem OK, so I just change the Bill heads out. They both work in a working machine. When I change transporter and bill head before, it did not work. Must not have seated properly. So there is nothing wrong with both of these.

So you have changed the DBV power supply ... You have 12 Volts feeding the bill head ... and you have the red LED's on the bill head illuminated, and the transport cycles.
OK.. Nothing wrong with the power supply.  no

Does the machine work OK with coin-in?

You said that you changed the Motherboard. Is this a known good motherboard that you swapped it with?

Did you try swapping the motherboard back after you changed the main power supply?

Yes to all the above.

It was a used spare motherboard. I have not tried changing back to the original motherboard. I will try that tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Ron,

I forget the numbers but some games are not the right type for the DBV to work.
Ie the DBV is type 21 but the game requires a 22. Check the game that is working and make sure the one that is not does not require a different type.

Jay, These are like my Volcano and Tidal Wave games. Right now I am running Triple Diamond 5-line with the problem I having right now.

Joe, I switched the motherboards. The original one did NOT work. No button lights and no LEDs, no stiffness on the reels. I put back my spare
and everything came back EXCEPT the DVB light. Plays fine but no DVB light and it does not take any bills. Now I don't know if it WAS the
main PS.

Boy I just love having fun with these machines...when they work.  yes

One thing I am learning more and more, I think. rotflmao

I would try a RAM Clear.  Maybe something is just bad in the config?

Given that your first problem was power related, and that you have exhausted most other options,  I would try swapping power supplies for the DBV - perhaps its just weak or missing one of the line voltages. Ie 12v which causes the power cycling but missing the 5v needed for the electronics.....

Update on these posts. Thanks to CommTech reseach of all my posts on this problem, it was he who thought to ask if DBV connector was in J6 on the motherboard.
It turns out J6 and J13 (printer connection) have the same connector. So I put them in the RIGHT set of pins and it worked. This lesson was hard learned. yes
