Have a Williams 550 machine.  Came in with a constant coin in jam error,  doing the currency I/O tests revealed that the machine did not see the coin. nothing jammed in the optics, I unplugged the optics and the error went away. All game functions are normal. machine will accept bills, and credit accordingly.

repaired the optics, the coin in error jam went away,  now, when I insert a coin, I get a long coin error.   all machine functions are good, game plays as it should, just won't credit coins. the coin will go into the hopper, just won't establish credit. Will accept bills and credit those according to denomination.

Had a spare I/O board, put it in, video will not come up , jumpers and switch settings were different between the two boards, none of the informationthat I have will tell me what those switch settings are or what the jumpers mean.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

What did you do to repair the optics?
Does that machine have a board with 6 transmitters and receivers?
If so I have one I will send you.

Robert,   thanks for the offer.  the optics in this machine have the four sets of detectors/receivers. 

one of the bottom emitters was open, so it wasn't putting out a beam, telling its detector that something was obstructing the beam.  thus the error.

replaced the optic and the error went away. still won't accept a coin. I suspect that whatever made that emitter go out may have taken out that part of the coin circuits on the I/O board.

OK Jim,
I'm not real familiar with the 550 machines, but I thought the 4 sets of optics were used in the 400 series and the six sets of optics are used in the 550's. They both have the same connectors.
Maybe someone with a working machine can confirm? Or has this machine worked before with those optics?

this is the first time I have ever worked on a Williams 550 machine. I don't know if it ever worked using coins.

Jim, I still think you have the wrong optics and diverter bracket.
The manual shows item 20 as the six optic board P/N A-18097-01
The bracket they mount to also has the diverter and holds the compairator has six holes for the optics.

If you install the 4 optic board, it's going to get a long coin in error since your two optics short.

I was wrong, the optics only have 3 sets.

Jim, just use an MC40 and change the comparitor cable.  There should be pinout assignements on my NXT conversion notes.  The same MC40 setup works if you use one of the newer clear chips for legacy software.

Do your NXT notes specify pinouts for the MC-40 harness?  It seems to me that the 4-pin connector on the upgraded 550 is two pins shy of being able to monitor the sense, tilt, and credit pulses...
