Title: Slot machine rigged at Bally's Las Vegas
Post by: knagl on July 26, 2011, 09:12:40 PM
Okay, not nearly as dramatic as the subject makes it sound, but I thought it would be of interest.

From Las Vegas Advisor - Today's News (http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/whatsnews.cfm?whatsnewsid=10979):

Quote
July 25, 2011 Slot Rigged for Marriage Proposal: A San Diego woman hit the jackpot in a novel way at Bally's Las Vegas last weekend when her boyfriend arranged to have the Colossus slot machine rigged to land on the words "Will you marry me" when she pulled the handle. The lucky lady apparently said, "Yes."

Aah, good, I just found a nice blog article about the whole thing (with some "how'd they do it" in there), and a video of the proposal in action:

It wouldn't surpirse me if he was, but on the other hand I'm sure the casino knew that they'd get lots of free publicity for doing it, too...

Test mode. Have you ever ran test mode on your slots?
They set it in test mode and didn't allow anyone to play it until she came up.

Noticed the second reel 7 was touching the line before she pulled the handle, not quite where it should be.

I didn't read the article on how they did it, but the first thought I had was 'last game recall'.

Look at the second pic and you can see they landed it on the jackpot symbols.
Never had an IGT 3-reeler but I thought the reels ran backwards in test mode? Maybe not possible with a Big Bertha.

Using either the Paytable test or the reel strip test. Depending on the software and the option they chose, they might have had to pre-select the stops, or it might have been designed to automatically spin to a particular pay – typically the jackpot – to test the payout. In either case, pressing the spin button (or pulling the handle) after entering the rest of the settings would then spin the machine to the desired stops.

A typical player looking for a free spin wouldn't bother looking at the LED readouts to notice that they looked funny. The handle would have already been unlocked in test mode, and they had the machine roped off so that no one could screw up the setup and ruin the surprise.

Sorry for spilling the beans Bunker; I didn't want you to end up a convict in a cell with Bubba. :200- :30- :208- :208- :208-

That's a good point. They probably switched reversed the wiring harness. That's also probably how they get phony jackpots to spin up from left to right in TV shows. :71-

At the bottom of the article there is a link to a gameking that paid $80,000 at The Rio.
It's a $100 machine and they show a 96.77% deuces wild on the screen.  :47- :47- :wtf1-

Only reinforces my belief that Harrah properties paytables suck!!!

Yeah, but you probably don't have a four reeler, but these would work on a three reeler:

FEED THE DOG
CLEAN YOUR ROOM
GO TO BED
WASH THE CAR
MOW THE LAWN
CLEAN THE POOL
DO THE LAUNDRY
NO MORE TV
DO THE DISHES
CLEAN MY ROOM
MASSAGE MY BACK
MAKE MY BED
CLEAN MY BATHROOM

You guys with KIDS SLAVES are spoiled!

You know, CH :95-, you've got 13 items there, but also have duplicates. You could make a set of reel strips with the following words. It would make for some funny combinations when played. I won't even list them here; member's can figure them out. :208- :208-

CLEAN      MORE     BACK
DO           MY         BATHROOM
FEED        THE        BED
GO           TO         CAR
MAKE       YOUR      DISHES
MASSAGE               DOG
MOW                    LAUNDRY
NO                       LAWN
WASH                   POOL
                            ROOM
                           TV
  9          5           11

A slot for the "Under 13" set.  :158-  :97- :97-
We need to substitute "Homework" for one of the other 11 words on the third reel, though. :5-

The kids will love it when the slot reads "wash your homework"  :25- :30- :96-

I like how they said that the machines would be in the 80-90k range if manufactured today.
I cry BS on that one. People have a hard time giving these away.
Other than the large reels / cabinet  the machine is pretty much stock to the equivelent regular sized machine.

Per the comment the guy must be a high roller...... 20something skinny blonde vs greypower..... hell ya he has money......  :279-

I don't think so. I'd say late 40s or early 50s, but in great shape. Clue? Look at her hands, and at her elbow in the one shot where it's bent.
