Title: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: DannyG804 on July 28, 2011, 05:10:11 PM Just had some backlit reels shipped to me - 2 sets. 3 out of the 6 reels have broken spokes/wheels. of course two are broken right where the reel strips would be tucked in. I was wondering if super glue or any other idea could salvage them for me, or am I s.o.l.??? :30-
Danny Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: FORDSBS on July 28, 2011, 05:13:52 PM I fixed one with Super Glue about 6 mo. ago & it's good today.
Make sure area is clean & no oils from you hands on it. Ford Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: cowboygames on July 28, 2011, 05:21:26 PM If they shipped them broken or they got damaged in shipping then let the seller replace them.
Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: DannyG804 on July 28, 2011, 05:27:06 PM I will try the super glue and then test them.
I messaged the seller as soon as I received the box - lets see what he says... Oh, seller said he would ship each set in a separate box yet all 6 reels arrived in ONE BOX! :wtf1- Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: FORDSBS on July 28, 2011, 05:32:09 PM I cleaned mine with alcohol before I glued it.
Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: DannyG804 on July 28, 2011, 05:34:54 PM thanks for the tip Ford. We'll have to see how much of a handyman I am.
Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: FORDSBS on July 28, 2011, 05:47:35 PM Be careful where your strips go that you don't get extra glue that will interfere with strip fitting.
Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: StatFreak on July 28, 2011, 06:34:13 PM I've never had to fix reel baskets, but I've found that Liquid Nails is much stronger than super glue in the long run, and works great on plastics. It starts to set in about 15-30 minutes, but I usually don't touch the object for 24 hours.
As Ford said, it would be very important to make sure that there was no extra epoxy in the groove for the strips, as it would be solid as a rock once dried. Just my 2¢ Stat :31- Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: cowboygames on July 28, 2011, 06:53:45 PM Depending on the work load they'll be under, I've used a soldering pencil to "fuse" broken plastic together also

Post by: DannyG804 on July 28, 2011, 07:16:59 PM guys don't challenge me so much, i was never any good in shop class back in the day - not one of my strengths... i should have results by tomorrow.
Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: DannyG804 on July 28, 2011, 08:16:58 PM ... talked to my seller and he offered to ship me 3 backlit reels if my repair jobs don't turn out.

Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: cartman765 on July 28, 2011, 09:03:01 PM I've used pvc cement to fix mine and seems to be holding just fine but like they said be carefull not to use too much.
Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: DannyG804 on August 07, 2011, 10:35:43 PM I was able to fix all 3 baskets - one turned out really wobbly though. Seller is sending me a replacement for that one. Super glue is magical. Must say Ford's tips were crucial in not making a mess or screwing up the area where the strips get tucked in. :240-
Thanks, Danny Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: FORDSBS on August 07, 2011, 10:39:49 PM happy to help.

Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: DannyG804 on August 07, 2011, 11:48:02 PM Actually, most of mine wobble some and hum too. It's just not as bad as this one I repaired. My question for you is how the hell are your strips on that 5X pay so clean and sealed perfectly at the end of the strip??? :103- I saw your pic on that best hit at home post you had a few days back.

Post by: poppo on August 07, 2011, 11:55:26 PM My question for you is how the hell are your strips on that 5X pay so clean and sealed perfectly at the end of the strip??? Not sure about his, but 3M poster tape works great. I've also had some strips that needed nothing and overlapped perfectly flat. Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: DannyG804 on August 08, 2011, 12:01:21 AM Maybe the left over residue on the strips makes it worse. I have some strips where the dbl sided tape is hard as a rock and crusty as all hell.
Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: staz on August 08, 2011, 12:38:30 AM those strips are brand new never used before...... thats why there so clean....... i wish i can find brand new backlite reels.......lol

Hence, my razzing. :30- First, Bunker introduces him to you as if you were a noob poster: "A member named Pwrstroke was ..." and then you answer as if there were several PWRSTROKEs on NLG! "who, barry?" Although in all fairness, I don't believe that he was selling backlit reels. It certainly made the thread more interesting. :97- It's been a punny day around here. :88- Title: Re: broken reels! are they fixable? Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 09, 2011, 02:09:00 PM Of course reminds me of a story that happened around 1968...lol
It's late at night the nite before Halloween - also known as "Mad Night". Two guys riding around in a patrol car see a bunch of eggs busted on the road. It's pretty dark out and can't really see who's who but it's a small town. Anyways, I'm sitting on the back of a rooftop with a dozen of my mom's eggs with a buddy right? Our friend Mitchell, is down near the road hiding behind a tree when the cops pull up. He's a little too chubby to climb up the trellis to the roof so he stayed down there with a couple of eggs in his hands. The cops stop the car and roll down their window and they can't really see anything because it's so dark out - randomly yells out: "Hey You! Go Home!" Mitchell sticks his head out from behind the tree and asks: "Who......me?" My buddy nearly fell off the roof from laughing so much... :96- |
