The old message forum software wasn't compatible with the upgraded version -- throw in some complications from the hosting, and the old forum essentially died. As such, everyone lost their account info, all of the old posts that didn't get archived (it all had to be done "by hand" -- there was no way to automate the process) are gone, and it kind of started from scratch.
