Title: main battery low with door open m and closure b
Post by: j blair on August 03, 2011, 10:58:59 PM
hi - i just got a igt s2000 super mag 7 machine. it says main low battery with closure B and door open M message. and of course it says call attendant. my question to you (smarter than me) people is------- is it normal to have the door/closure message with a low main battery? also, would my IO test not run with low battery? i plan on replacing battery tomorrow if it comes in the mail> thanks for your time!

You can get some strange error messages when the main battery is low or dead.  Replace it and see if they clear.  While you have the board out inspect the green 3.6v Varta rechargeable battery for signs of corrosion.  These often leak and damage circuit traces that will cause Door open M messages, at least on the 501/2/4 boards.  Good luck.

closure B simply means that the door that secures the cashbox was closed and no games have been played since, it will go away after 1 or 2 games are spun.
open M means that the main door is open, once it closes you will see closure M until a game or 3 are played.
but i agree with Tilt, the battery must be addressed first. :89-

very possible.  :89-  you're not going to get the game playable until that battery is replaced anyways so knock that problem out first.  if the I/O's still don't work after the battery tilt is cleared then we can help troubleshoot that issue.  :50-

thanks guys. i took the old battery out (wasnt easy because my de-solder  brade (wick) wouldnt suck up solder good until i dipped it in flux and that worked a little better) . this is my first go with small solder jobs but i was patient and kept heating the brade and cutting it off as i progressed. i put in a battery tray from mouser electronics (pins fit perfect!) and battery. everything worked but i had to go through and clear things out like in a ram clear until it told me to press white button on my cpu for 2-3 seconds. I DID NOT HAVE TO DO A RAM CLEAR - I JUST HAD TO CLEAR SOME THINGS WITH THE KEY ON THE SIDE OF MY MACHINE. i would recommend the battery tray from mouser that i read about on this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it makes it easy to replace the battery and you can use a variety of 3v batteries in it. thanks to all of you - lets stick together because these machines can be complicated!  thanks again  jeff

:244-  :105-   :244-  it sure feels good to fix something you were so unsure of doesn't it!!  :259- usa_flag

btw: a quick tip for de-soldering in the future, first melt some new solder onto the old solder joints that you want to remove.  old crap mixes with new and makes it much easier to get out.  if you're going to do much soldering i highly recommend a solder sucker, much easier than braid.  :50-
