Title: Coin Comparitor for a Bally E2000
Post by: litterbox99 on August 09, 2011, 11:57:53 PM
If someone could ID or recommend a comparator for an E2000...

My working E2332 has always had this hacked up comparator.  It's been
stripped of the sense and rake coils.  Basically the coin just drops through
some optics.  I only know the basic operation of comparators.

Anyway, the bottom line is what can I use in it's place ?  The MPU board
has two inputs related to 'coining up'    Dry contact switching does not
work.

What I have derived is this....

The MPU will only coin up when the two inputs receive the appropriate
pulse train from the comparator's electronics.

I think one pulse must follow the other... to the inputs of the MPU.

I had borrowed a storage scope from a buddy and from what
I remember (this was quite a while ago) it was 10ms wide pulse, 20ms delay
followed by another 10ms wide pulse. This was monitored from the
two outputs of the comparitor.

I know slot machines had a tilt mech if someone tried to coin up, from the
bottom up, on the coin mech.  This was true in my earlier testing.

Their are two sets of optics, I'll call it coin in and coin out.  The
control board on the comparitor must see these inputs and generate
the correct output.

Here's some pics;

the basic set up.

The gray wire is ground
The blue w/red stripe is 5vdc
The blue wire is output X
The green wire is output Y

I guess I need a comparitor that can generate the correct pulse train.
I can power the comparitor with any voltage the power supply has.

If someone has an E2000 that would take pics of the coin setup or describe it,
that would be great !  It works now, but I want it right.

My E2200 has the old setup.
I can't get the wiring of the switch as
my wiring diagram isn't too good.

Thanks for the pic Paul !

Unfortunately, this type of dry contact switching didn't work for me.

After doing some searching, I found this post.

The first picture in the thread shows an image of what I
think my slot may have originally had in the coin door.

It just so happens that Foxsslots has these on ebay, so
I'm definitely picking up a few to toy with.

I can't find any schematics referring to 'coin optics' in any
of the PDF's I have for the E1000 & E2000.  In fact, I have
yet to find any kind of documentation for the Progressive
or Military ver of the E2000.

This optic board looks simple enough to reverse engineer the
pinout,  It's just some opto's and transistor's

My machine has an electromechanical, 2 line progressive
display on top.  It may be a military unit (I know the military
versions had coin optics) and it also has two key switches on the
right side (from what I have learned the military vers had
two keys also) or perhaps the two keys is indigenous to the
progressive system.

Doing more research on the Military ver of the Bally
E2000, I have read that there were only two vers of 'glass' and
mine doesn't even look close.  I also read that the ROMS had
'Military' labels, which mine doesn't.

Perhaps I should change this tread to WTF do I have ;-)

If you post some good pictures of the front and inside
Barry can tell you if it is a military ver. or not and what
parts you may need.
Barry (Foxsslots) is the man in the Bally reel slots.

For now, the only pics I have for now are here...

I'll take better pics of the coin door on Monday.

I did get mine working.  I removed the comparitor and put in
a standard coin mech and added the optic boards (foxsslots has
them) and it's been working fine.
