Title: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on August 18, 2011, 09:28:16 PM I have read the thread about EI, but are there any other alternatives to make custom slot glass, mainly in which light shines through like a standard slot glass? Couldn't a sign company that makes mirrored/illuminated glass panels make them? I have found a place that can import digital photos to glass and the examples look greatwith the backlighting, that company is fractureme.com but I think for a picture to be transferred to normal award and belly glass dimensions, the pixel resolution must be a certain size. Anybody have any other ideas on this? I am trying to make a custom slot machine for my dad as a gift.
Thanks for any input, David Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: StatFreak on August 19, 2011, 04:18:29 AM Is there a reason you don't want to use EI? Slot glass is their specialty and they'll get it right the first time. I'm not trying to plug them, but why reinvent the wheel?
Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on August 19, 2011, 11:08:48 AM Well I wanted a college football theme, and I figured they would not do the artwork that I would want being that it is a college team and the pictures may be a problem from a copyright point of view. I have seen what they do and it is what I want for sure. I keep seeing people say that it is too expensive as well, but they never mention a price range. I t will be a gift for my dad so I am willing to pay a normal amount.
Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: Slotmaster on August 19, 2011, 11:31:59 AM EI will not do anything that is a copyright picture, however they still do generic slot glass like the one I attached.

It sounds like its just a photo attached to a piece of glass..... Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: jay on August 30, 2011, 02:04:02 AM I have a local company that does the door signage for our company.
THey took a look at the mylar on the back of the slot glass and said no problem. I haven't actually had them do any work for me..... The Proof for 1 sheet of glass costs me $140, then $16 + glass for each one. I think it works out to $22/copy once the proof is done. To do a single theme for myself $166/sheet is a tad much. On the other hand if I was doing 10 copies that works out to $36/head. What they can't do is get a good copy from an existing sheet. So if I gave them something like my Haywire top glass they can't copy it because light shines through. On the other hand if I gave them a image from IGTs web site this would not be a problem other than its a real crappy resolution and the 16" top glass would be all pixulated. I don't know but some of the special effects like the $ symbols on the 10x pay glass might be a challenge for them as well. Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: StatFreak on August 30, 2011, 08:38:06 AM They would probably not be able to do any transmissive colors or mirroring, either.
It also would be a shame to pay that much money and end up with a crappy image because you used a small JPG off the internet. :60- Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: litterbox99 on September 15, 2011, 11:15:08 PM I have been thinking of this myself.
I have a E2000 with the wrong reel glass, I did buy one that's real close, but it has some flaking and would shine through. What if one scanned the reel glass ? I know there would be issues with backlighting and shine through, but couldn't one clean it up with imaging software and provide it to these guys ? But if the design belongs to another company and it is their own - Copy-Right laws come into EFFECT... You wanna spend a few years sharing a cell with a horny 6'5" lifelong prisoner named Bubba who smiles affectionately at you every morning in the mess hall? Be my guest! Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: litterbox99 on September 16, 2011, 12:52:30 AM I'm not sure I like the way Bubba is lookin at me ;-)
I didn't realize that companies would care on such an old and end of life project. If the image didn't contain 'Bally' or Bally® would it would be OK ? Of course, I'm not a legal expert. Just looking for a solution... Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: stayouttadabunker on September 16, 2011, 01:05:10 AM If you can change a certain % percentage of the original design and make it your own -
I think you can get by the copy-write laws. How much that you need to change - I have no idea. I do NOT believe just removing the company's name and logo is enough by any means! That would be like me taking the Chevrolet badge off of my car and trying to market it as a "Bunkermobile" :97- Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: poppo on September 16, 2011, 01:08:56 AM That would be like me taking the Chevrolet badge off of my car and trying to market it as a "Bunkermobile" :97- But we know it would not end there. You would ADD enough extra stuff that it would only be 2% original. :79- Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: stayouttadabunker on September 16, 2011, 01:13:29 AM lol You don't know me that well Poppo!
For some reason...I have done not ONE thing to this car...uh... yet! Personally, coming from a guy that once had a remote control semi-fake missile launcher pop out of my front headlight grille - I find this amazing... I must be getting old... :72- Basically it was a rubbing alcohol potato gun attached to an electric French window opener... a perplexed policeman kindly wrote me a summons to have it removed within 24 hours... :5- I complied... :8- Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: StatFreak on September 16, 2011, 03:00:22 AM That would be like me taking the Chevrolet badge off of my car and trying to market it as a "Bunkermobile" :97- But we know it would not end there. I got ticketed twice for not having a front plate on my Vette. I didn't even wait a day to remove it again; I did it as soon as I got home. :200- A paint matched molded piece snapped into the "hole" and had the word "Corvette" embossed on it. It precisely matched the outer contour of the front of the car, including the little point dead center. They make it for states that don't require a front plate... and people like me who didn't care about the occasional $10 or $15 fine. Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: stayouttadabunker on September 16, 2011, 12:42:11 PM Needless to say I had never reinstalled the potato gun again but one of my best friends had a wooden stake rack truck.
It was a piece of junk really and more of a party truck. I used to pull up behind him and fire a potato at him.... :264- :72- Not that he had the best paint job in the world but after a while, all the paint started peeling off his back end! We didn't know potatoes have ACID in them?!?!?!? :5- Hey! You learn something new everyday! :96- He never washed that thing anyways.... :298- :297- Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: StatFreak on September 16, 2011, 09:13:35 PM ... Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: IFFV68 on September 16, 2011, 11:00:50 PM Give Frank a call at Casino Glass in Las Vegas,. 702-523-0265 He can get custom kits made. I believe it's the same company that does I.G.T. or Bally. glass but I could be wrong. I've seen some of his custom kits & they all look factory perfect. I forgot the name of the company that does them.. Not certain of the cost, $400 or $500 & you may have to order several for them to do it. Again I don't remember. Expensive is what it's worth to you. It may not be that expensive. You only have one Father. We were out there last summer & he had some kind of Custom Sports Team. Glass, Reel strips, that were made for someone. Frank is a real honest guy & has many contacts in Vegas. He has a lot of Glass, some Strips, & no Chips. He doesn't deal in Chips. I hope this may help members out. R. Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: StatFreak on September 16, 2011, 11:17:29 PM Are you sure you mean Frank? :103- I thought he only warehoused old glass (and some strips).
Express Imaging is the company that makes glass and strips to near OEM quality. However, they will only print custom art and will not reprint anything that is copyrighted. Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: Yoeddy1 on September 17, 2011, 04:08:02 AM Yep, Stat is right. EI is the custom shop. I looked into a custom long reel glass for The Mummy and it was going to run 3-400 bones, with no guarantee that it would look perfectly matched to the rest of the glass. It is what it is when you don't have the original artwork source files from IGT and are working from hi-res scanned images.
Anyway, yes, I agree with Richard...Frank is a standup guy and I have bought several pieces from him. I don't think he is a "customization" source though. Jason Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: IFFV68 on September 17, 2011, 12:05:55 PM I forgot the name E.I.
I didn't know they would make glass for anyone. I thought you had to be a business. R. Jason, Would they do a kit for $300-$400 or just the Reel Glass? Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: Yoeddy1 on September 17, 2011, 12:11:14 PM They do full glass kits and strips. A full kit would cost more than that I'm sure.

R. Jason, Would they do a kit for $300-$400 or just the Reel Glass? 'Back in the day' (2007) when they would do repro kits, I paid $178.95 delivered for a Haywire Deluxe kit. All 3 pieces of glass and strips. Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: Yoeddy1 on September 17, 2011, 01:00:24 PM Wow! I would have been all over those prices. That's not bad at all.

In this so called "bad economy" you would think that someone coul step up to the plated and make some Mucho Dinero............lol

I too have had a desire to customize my slant top to my favorite football team. I recently finished refurbishing it (thanks to the great folks here at New Life), and now I want to change it to a San Diego Charger theme. I have no problem using 1 of the three game chips I alredy have, I would just have to make sure the reel strips match the game. Glass, I expect might be a challenge but I think I can get that art work done local. Lastly, I would have the entire cabinet totally wrapped with the SD Charger logo. Something simular to those wraps they put on cars or trucks now-a-days.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Title: Re: Custom Slot Machine Glass Post by: cowboygames on June 12, 2012, 02:01:04 PM If you're planning on using actual Chargers logos you may have a hard time getting an established shop to make anything for you due to copyright laws. Using something premade is a lot differant than making your own. Not that the Chargers are likely to sue you over one game, but IGT sued companies for reproducing their reel strips without permission and shut down a big market for easy replacements
