Title: How many carats?
Post by: cowboygames on August 26, 2011, 02:04:44 AM
Found this article on MSN and I'm trying to figure the value. How many carats are there in a diamond 37,300 miles across?

More than you can afford! :127- :30- :72- :72-  According to these guys, a trillion, trillion dollars. (Which is one septillion dollars)
That's – a lot of zeros!! :96- $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

<EDIT> Oh, wait. These guys are BRITISH, and as we all know the Brits can't do anything the way the rest of the world does. :279- The British trillion isn't the same as a trillion everywhere else (with the possible exception of Australia.)
So instead of 1x1024 it's 1x1036 or $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. :25- :97- :97-

But seriously, that MSN article is a bit fast and loose (not lose) with its descriptions.

These articles cover the story with a bit less sensationalism and more data.

The second has a link to the original publication, but one has to subscribe or pay a flat $15 in order to view and download it.

Well, I had a response all typed out, but if I posted it we'd have to move this thread to the rants and raves board. :30-

Well, if any of us had any extra celery in our wallets we'd be able to buy carats instead of talking about them  :97- Or is it lettuce I'm thinking of? :103-

I think you're right. What cowboygames really needs is higher celery. Those stalks get awfully short after the government sickle comes through. :279- :30-
