Seems like there is a problem with U60 which is a 14-stage binary ripple counter ( 74HC4020 ) and provides the CPU with a 2khz OS tick.

Could also be a problem with the CPU.

Looks like you're up for a new board.

I need more info.

What system do you have ?  NSW ? U.S ?

Have you tried other games ?

There should also be an error message at the top of the screen.

I would look at power supply issues and leaking capacitors first if its doing random things.

it has NSW board, dont have any other games to try. but ill check out the power supply and capacitors, cheers for the help. no errors at the top of the screen. just says                                                                                                                                                           CPU CHECK OK
DRAM CHECK OK
EPROM CHECK OK
DRAM EMULATOR FOUND
2KHZ TIMER OK
SYSTEM START UP CODE ENTERED

they blink and machine beeps
the two green lights on the power supply board, the one on the left comes on and stays on
the one on the right comes on and fades out, and it keeps doing that, i can hear the cooling fan come on and go off. pretty keen to get the damn thing to work again.

Do you have a MK5 series1? Take a pic of the inside with the door open if you want.

If it's a MK5 series 1 they seperated their PSU's.. they had a PC looking PSU (on the bottom of the case) and a big 'card' with chunky filters etc - You will need to force it to fail so the startup code is not entered (to see if it stay up or not as a rough test).

Otherwise, make sure the Driver board is in firm (the one on the left) and the Comms board next to it (on the right with the cable clip things).

If it's a really old board, (remember these things have been on for like 12 or more years every day) things can fail when cold, but seem to work once warmed up, it's not ideal to do if it's a PSU problem or a short - but try this, let it keep rebooting for about 5 minutes, then turn off, wait 30 seconds and power back on. - see what happens.

Otherwise you won't know what the problem is until you get another MK5 board, you can get some on aussie ebay here and there for less than $100, under coin-op. Or here http://www.tektronikenterprises.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=1087
