Title: 7 Segment Progressive Display Mount
Post by: cowboygames on August 29, 2011, 04:14:50 PM
For anyone who bought one of those displays and has a RT machine there is a simple way to mount those in your machine. It seems the bracket they come with was made for 9" or 16" top boxes. I took one of the thick foam rubber can coolers that used to be so popular, cut a piece to match the jackpot window decal I had and then cut a rectangle out of it just slightly smaller than the display LEDs so it would be a snug fit around them. I removed ALL metal bracketing from the diplay and stuck the foam rubber cutout to the top glass with 2 sided tape. It holds the display in place VERY well :89- To mount the circuit board close, I used 2 sided foam tape. I made a separate foam rubber cutout for each of my conversion kits to make change outs easier. Anyway, this worked great for me and I hope it helps someone else.

i have a couple of the display also but there appears to be a mount missing inside the top box, i have nine inch and and round top and it wont mount.
i am assuming there is a mount that attaches to the 2 screws on the left side of the top box but i dont have it.

Please post a couple of  pictures of the progressive system

There is 2 metal mounts one on each side that are normally used for the Spectrum or Spectrum II
you want to use the one on the right.
The brackets that come with the progressive (iif you got them) get screwed into mount on the right side for the Spectrum
The only one I have done I had to place the progressive bracket behind the Spectrum mount with the screws going back to front.
A magnetic screwdriver would be very helpful since you have to install the screws from the back.
If you try to install the mount on the front you will not clear the glass with the display.

They look like they should just hook onto cabinet studs inside the top box, but there aren't any studs on the right side, only the left. My box has the spectrum mounts also, but there's really no way to attach to it so I went with the idea above. Does anyone know if the second ribbon cable plug is for plugging in a second display? Like on my Triple Double Stars kit the top 2 awards have changeable decals. Can I make the second award a progressive also?

When I installed the one for another member I used the long slotted holes in the progressive bracket as the mounting point and attached to the right spectrum mount.
you have to use screws that match the threads in the spectrum mount.
depending on what top box you are installing in You may need long screws for Round Top

YES just plug in a second ribbon  cable and set up the progressive for a second tier  progressive award

So do they have special window decals for these? The display doesn't come close to filling the space. That's part of the reason I didn't try real hard to mount the bracket, I was gonna have to cut something to fill that out anyway

Your cutout foam mount sounds a lot like how I mounted my mini-photon display into the player tracking bar on my S+:

Wha? Ya didn't like my block of wood?  :72-

Actually, the wood was for the driver board -
I didn't want it to short out on the floor of the metal topbox.
