The ones you want to use are sold by JCM for use on the WBA
They call them waffle cleaners or such
They are the only ones approved by JCM

it is best just to use a link free cloth with a bit of clean water to moisten a corner of the cloth and gently buff the lenses dry.

That is up to you but I do not clean mine until it starts messing up on bills or tickets.

When you really think about it...those swipe/waffle cards are a waste of money anyways.
All you need to clean are the belts and eye optics.

What do you need?
A little time & patience combined with some warm soapy water
and a couple of Q-Tip swabs...  :96-

Dry cotton swabs on the eyes or just a touch of glass cleaner. Cotton towel, like flour sack towels, and glass cleaner on the belts. That's what I used when I was servicing ATM machines

Spit on the optics and wipe off with shirt tail.

Yep, that'd probably work to Buzz, you might want to spit on your shirt first then wipe them off though.

All bullshit aside, I do spit on a rag and wipe the optics. Works for ME.  I will not use a paper towel, paper is made from wood, wood will scratch plastic.

I knew you weren't kidding, but when the customer is watching, ya gotta make it look difficult. Even the glass cleaner was in an unmarked bottle :72- I was getting $200 a piece for pm work on the machines and they were happy to pay it because their transport related breakdowns dropped from 2-3 times a year to 0

Oh  and I put Purex bleach on the belts.  I figure if Purex will stop a conveyor belt from slipping in a Rock Plant, it will stop a BV belt from slipping.

I could see that working as long as your shirt is not made from bamboo...  :5-

Bunker  I wouldn't tell a whole lot of people this, but I try to use some mouth wash first, that way I have a MINTY BV     with my DNA all over it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nah, I'd just do a clear/key procedure.  Works for everything.

See?  Even Buzz can't help but use the word "Minty.".

You mentioned glass cleaner twice and no one here said anything. They were all too busy gargling with BS Minty mouthwash!  :86- :86-   :208- :208- :208-

Seriously, do not use glass cleaner on the optics or you'll ruin them. Remember: Belt, yes, head, no.

Any cleaning liquids that contain alcohol should be avoided when
cleaning the plastic eye optic bill sensors because even though they work momentarily, over time, they
will "cloud up" the plastic lens of the optics and progressively worsen the bill acceptance.
Like Stat said - rubber bill conveyor belts = no problems using Windex...

Title: Re: do these actually work?
Post by: StatFreak on August 30, 2011, 12:18:51 PM
Windex is ammonia, which is also bad for them. I wouldn't use it on the magnetic reader either. Those are basically the same as an audio head on a tape deck. Technically, one could use alcohol on the mag head, buy why, when there's a risk of contaminating the rest of the head?

A Q-tip lightly wet with water, or water with a drop of dish washing liquid, are all that is needed.

Buzz, I honestly don't know if bleach is safe for the DBV belts or not, but I wouldn't go by what is done to conveyor belts at a rock plant. I sincerely doubt that they are made from the same rubber/polymer as the belts in the DBV transport. That's not to say that it isn't okay to use  – just that it's not clear.

Wow! You had me looking at the ingredients of a Windex bottle and
sure enough! It's mixed with ammonia!
You learn something new every day!  :71-

Thanks Stat!  :131-

I looked it up and found that mixing ammonia with bleach releases chlorine gas which is highly toxic and
can kill ya!  :47-

It does more than that. Depending on the ratio of sodium hypochlorite (bleach) to ammonia, it can just kill ya' ... or kill ya' and then blow you up ... or blow you up and THEN kill ya'!!  :200- :30-  :279-:97- :97- :97-
