Title: game king background color issue
Post by: dax1592 on September 02, 2011, 04:44:11 AM
thnking about buying a game king from a guy on the web....he sent pics of the machine and the colors are faded and said he cannot change background from black to blue (went into settings and selected blue and it did not change). The monitor is a 19" ceronix LCD and is 2 years old....any ideas on what the problem is and if I can fix it...thanks

When you open the door, on a CRT monitor there should be a few dials on the top of the monitor that can be turned to adjust brightness, contrast, etc.  On my old Kortek CRT monitor, this is where they were located on mine...just above the screen, but the door would have to be opened to see them.  I can't really tell from the photos, but is that a CRT or an LCD monitor?

Thanks,
Jason

Well, the LCD monitor will have it's own settings.  On my GK, mine LCD is mounted on the door and on the back of the LCD panel, there is a serious of buttons that perform various functions similar to what I mentioned above.  Usually, all settings can be set back to default.  This is a good trouble shooting step depending on what has been changed.

On the other hand, when you open the door, there is a white test button on the MPU (board that sits in a metal tray that pulls out) that will enter the GK software settings.  Within that menu structure, there should be a "machine settings" section and somewhere in there, you can adjust the game's background color.

Might be a good idea to make sure his DVI or VGA cable (whichever type he has connected to the monitor is seated and secured properly to the monitor.

Anyway, a few things to try.

Jason

The monitor is a 19" ceronix LCD and is 2 years old....

i'd buy it and send the LCD back to Ceronix or CasinoTech for repair.  last i heard Ceronix has a 4 year bumper-to-bumper warranty on their LCD's.  the only problem you might have is whether the warranty will transfer to a new owner :103-
do you know the model of the LCD?  i can try to find a manual/schematics/bill of materials/etc. so you can try to fix it yourself.  it might cost you an extra $100 for a new A/D board for the LCD to fix the color issue.  good luck!

First off were looking at a picture, and you have to ask are the colors really faded? Or maybe the black back ground is making them look faded when in fact they are not. A lot depends on the camera, Stat has a camera that could make faded images nice and bright when in fact they are not.

Ceronix have a 4 year warranty on their LCD. You would have to give them a call and see if that is only good to the original buyer.

Another issue that I see is, why does the machine have a dull finish on the play deck ? The coin head and frame work around the picture look to be chrome and the play deck has a dull look. Paint, I don't know. If it is painted I would think that would lower the value of the machine, but let me be clear, I'm no expert on the value of a machine. Jason post pictures of his machine and it always looks dull and he said it's the reflection from his ceiling.

Unless IGT has made some serious changes to there button decks recently, that's not a game King deck. Looks more like a cherry master button deck

Nope  it's just old like ME.      show you how pictures are deceiving  this machine is not gold.

Short answer: The bet deck almost certainly is not chrome, and the monitor colors seen here won't be of any help in determining the state of the monitor.

What Buzz is saying is certainly correct, but in this case I think we can safely say that the bet deck isn't chrome, and that the monitor isn't the color you're seeing.

It's the second picture that reveals things, so to speak, because it's taken from a wide enough angle to include other things to the left and enough of the machine to give us points of reference for color, saturation and hue.

For example, one can clearly see that the frame around the monitor is chrome. If one looks at the vertical chrome one can get an idea of how the lighting in the image is affecting the other vertical  surfaces of the machine. Also look at the way the chrome looks on the coin head. As Buzz says, we don't know exactly what's going on with that bet deck (top and front) but I would give you 50 to one odds or better that it's not chrome.

As to the color fading, look at the color, hue, and saturation of the lit yellow bezel denomination piece. Look at the color of the change button, and finally at the lit bet buttons. Look at the overall hue of the chrome around the monitor. Compare all of these with what you know them to be in person and you have a point of reference.

Monitor colors are notorious for showing up incorrectly in a camera unless the camera is balanced for the monitor, but if that is done then everything else looks off, so in this case we know that the camera is not balanced for the monitor. The first picture doesn't match the second, but it doesn't look monitor balanced either. In my experience the reds on monitors tend to end up more orange in the camera, but even that might not be true here.

It's possible that the pictures are close to the actual colors and brightness of the monitor, but I doubt it.

Just my 2¢

I talked to Troy on the phone and I thought he was going to post, maybe later. Anyway he said something about a small jumper that when moved you will get rid of the black back ground.  As usual I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to what he said !!!!!!!

Sounds  like troy knows his stuff... Went to a local slot repair shop, said that jumpers would fix it on original monitor, the ceronix monitor does not have the jumper option.... So in short form....its black and thats the way it stays
