Title: S+ - Not booting to LED on front panel - no spinning reels
Post by: teamclark4 on January 04, 2009, 11:29:31 PM
Have a Hot Peppers machine... It "was" working before i bought it and moved it home.  Now when i plug it in I have all the lights lighting up, the DBV whirring ( and then stopping after 15 secs); but i never get anything on the LED in the front; and the reels don't do the initial spin thing.  I also have a Triple Double Diamond next to it that boots up fine.

So even though all the fuses looked ok; i swapped the 3 between the working machine and non-working. Nothing

I pulled the motherboard and reseated it. Nothing

I meticulously verified that everything is properly plugged in.  It's as if something came unplugged in-transit but i definately don't see it.

If i take the motherboard out and turn on the machine; everything lights up the same as when it's in (except of course for the LED's on the front panel)... This leads me to believe that there is a problem with the motherboard, either power or something.

Because i have no LED in front; when i push the "self-test" button of course i don't see anything and can't do anything.

Any ideas ?

Hello!

Are the reels "stiff" when the machine is on or do they move freely just like when the machine is off?

...and if the answer is "they move freely," start reading here (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=1412.msg10177#msg10177) on a very recent thread -- it's likely the power connector described in that thread.   :71-

It looks like i have a power supply issue..........

I wasn't getting good readings on that 6 pin power supply to the CPU board.  So I swapped out that power connector from a working machine and it still didn't work.  I replaced all the fuses and it still didn't work..

Then i rigged up a 6 foot "extender" to go from the "good" machine 6 pin molex (out of the power supply) into the "bad machines" molex connector... So basically when i turn the power on the "bad" machine, everything is powered except the CPU board.. Then i turn on the "good" machine and it gets power to the bad machine CPU... So i have LED's now on the bad machine and can play it..  Of course this 6 foot mass of wires isn't going to work in the long run.

It looks like i'm looking on ebay for a power supply; unless someone here has a spare for sale....

Thanks..

Hello!

You might want to remove the bad power supply from the machine and open it up to make sure there are no loose coins in there.  When machines get moved, it is common for a loose coin to get lodged where it shouldn't.  Sometimes just finding and removing a coin will solve all the problems.  Worth a look anyway :)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Dan....

I did take the top part of the power supply off and looked down in there to see if i could see anything wrong.  I guess the next step is to take the whole thing out like you're saying since i would have to do that anyway to replace it....

thanks.

Check with the vendors at the top of this page -- I'm sure one of them will have an S+ power supply for you at a reasonable price.

I have several S+ power supplies if needed. They are $24.00 plus shipping. Let me know if I can help.

before you spend your money----after u take the ps out take the one screw that holds the back plate in place and give the transformer area a good visiual, make sure all the push on connectors are tight------ inspect around the line filter make sure those connections are tight--- then inspect the fuse housings make sure those are good and also look for loose or unusual looking connections----make sure fuses are the right amperage as posted on the front (sometimes people put higher rated fuses in the holder and it gets hot and becomes unstable, last but not least check the connections on the black bus block. hopefully u will find something out of line-----being that the machine did work and all that u did  was move it.  then if all else fails go to plan b.

Thanks Jim i'll check that out.. I had done a quick visual inside the power supply, but i could definately give it a thorough go thru again.
