i am changing from a 4 reel game to a 5 reel game and could use a little help.
If someone reading this post that has a 5 reel game can take a picture of the door wiring and the wiring under the reels I would appreciate it very much!

I can't figure out where to mount the I/O card that is normally attached to the MPU board.  The wiring isn't long enough on either I/O board to reach into the cabinet, that's why a picture of the door and under the reel board may help me. It's taking WAY too long to change this game over....

I guess I'm confused. Why do you need to do anything with the cabinet I/O board at all? Changing from 4 to 5 reels should be as simple as changing the reel shelf and removing the jumper on the 5 reel wiring harness spare reel plug that the 4 reel machine should have already had. The cabinet I/O card stays mounted to the side of the MPU housing The door wiring harness should not be involved in the change at all. Post pictures of what you yhink the issue is on your game please

It's a ten button button panel. I got it to boot up, the display error is gone but I hear some sizzling coming from the right side of the cabinet under the reel shelf. :208-
I had to change the I/O card because of the 10 button panel. It still isn't seeing the 10 button I/O card tho.......... :103-

The 10 button panel has two of it's own IO cards it uses attached to either side of the panel on the door. Cabinet IO card stays where it's at. The sizzle you're hearing on the right side of the cabinet could be your meter board burning up if it's still there and plugged in. The wiring from a 5 or 10 button deck to the backplane is the same, all differances are on the part of the harness within the door itself. The door harness uses a pair of 7802 cards in tandem and the cabinet uses a 7601? board on the side of the MPU housing. I'd take pictures of one of mine, but I'm not at home so someone's gonna have to jump in with visual aids here, sorry. I would highly recommend not putting power to the machine again till the situation's worked out though or you might be looking at a new backplane, IO card, power supply or any combination thereof

Well, I found the source of the sizzle, or static I guess. It is the reels. I took 3 of them and put them in my other S200 and heard the same sound. Problem is, now I hear a constant humm from both my speakers on my other machine...... DA....T!

Are the new reels LED or incandescent backlit?

Well, I let the reels make their noise and finally got rid of cant find 10 button button panel. Did a ram clear and got rid of that error, but only have 4 buttons that are active, so I cant do a clear. Getting close, any suggestions are appreciated!

With onlt 4 buttons working it kinda sounds like only one of the two door IO cards is active and working. Are they both installed and fully seated? If they are you might try swapping the plugs that are plugged into the top of those. Or you may have a bad card.

I switched the cards around, no difference...

please take pictures so we can see what you have in the door please

i just completed a 5 reel and it is easier to look a pics to see what is missing

Which means both cards are probably good. Did you try swapping the plugs in the top of them?

cant tell from the pics but makes sure the harness from the black connector on the line bet display goes to the io card closet to belly door
at the 14 pin molex that comes from the cabinet goes into the hopper side I/O on the door.
the 3rd 14 pin molex goes into the line bet display

This is as far as I can get, the 7 KEYCHIP CONFIG.
Still have just 4 buttons that light up...

That's all that lights up when you are setting up in the keychip  config press the  spin button  to enter   /  max bet to lock in / change and cash out to scroll through options.

If you need help doing that, I can walk you through it over the phone later today. PM me if you can wait that long and I will send you my #.

Well, I did the ram clear   :3- closed the door with hundred in hand and it started up........................... 10 BUTTON I/O CARD NOT FOUND! :208- :208- :99-

 Did you try I/O test 4.3 auto configure netplex device . didnt see any thing for I/O but its a try

Is there any way to disable the progressive?

 IN the key chip II it  can be set up if it is accessable from the chip you are using . you can set up progressive even if you do not have a display it still runs in the background

   yes      its not set up if you did not  set it up

if i didnt set it up, why am i getting these messages?

What messages?   not  responding  means the display is not installed as a piece on machine

10 BUTTON I/O CARD NOT FOUND

 IF  its not an error     ITS ether a bad connection at a harness /    wire off  / a bad I/O  card /  main board

If this machine was a 3 reel plus bonus reel (commonly called a 4 reel),  did you remove the 2 pin jumper from the cabinet I/O?  These 4 reel games use that jumper but it must be removed for 3 and 5 reel games.

That has nothing to do with the jumper.  The jumper came with your machine.  You need to remove it.  I don't have a photo but there is a topic somewhere on NLG with a photo of where the jumper is located.

I looked for the topi with no luck.

What is that 2-pin Molex connector being jumped for?  :129- :128-

It's hard to compare pictures. Every machines wiring looks way different from anothers. I still can't figure it out........ I had the 10 BUTTON 1/O CARD NOT FOUND error and it went away when I switched the I/O card wiring around in t6he door. Then when I did the clear to set the denomination, the error came back..... Doesn't make any sense to me?????

Why is there 3 reel cable connections on the Backplane?
Reels 1-5
Reels 6-10
Reels 11-15

Take a photo of the area that your reel connection is on the backplane connected to and post it.  Also, just look for a white 2 pin connector with a green and black wire with red stripe.  The jumper is on it.

Only one I see is a red & white wire and a black wire.

I found the green and black wire with the red stripe. That jumper is off!

The 1270 boards use a motherboard that has sockets for 3 sets of reels. I use #1. The others musta been for future needs that never materialized or something along that line. Does your machine use a line bet board like what Bunkers does? Maybe you've got a similar problem with a bad board there

I'm sure an enhanced MB would not be the cause of any of this????

Now I am totally confused.  You said this was a 4 reel machine and the jumper is off (you didn't remove it).  What was the title of the game prior to install the 5 reel?

It's not, you asked why it had more than one reel plug. Although I did have a bad enhanced motherboard once that caused all kinds of differant errors. It was a problem with the sockets for the MPU on the board. Crappy connections there

I'm with you Bunker. This seems to be wandering all over the place.

I apologize if some of you were lost, but when I get stuck on something, I'm not one to quit until the problem is solved.

Wander as it may........ I took EVERYTHING off that went to the 5 reel game and put my old Triple Triple Diamond 3 reel game on, and put all wires and jumpers back in their original position. EVERYTHING went flawlessly and the machine ran GREAT!

Since I have NEVER given up on anything in my life...... I then proceeded to start over with the 5 reel game. I started with the button panel, taking my time, ensuring everything went in its proper place. If I ran into a wire that had to be connected somewhere other than the button panel, I taped it off and labeled it as to where it's original position was.

I then proceeded with the reel shelf and reels. ( I used my OLD wiring harness so as not to take the chance that maybe the harness I got with the kit had a short in it! ) I removed the 4th wire jumper and plugged the harness into the reels and then into the baklit reel board and into the backplane. I left the 2 wires running acrosss the bottom of the machine that had jumpers in them alone.

I then did a clear to set my denomination to 5 cents, fired it up, NO ERROR MESSAGES!!!
I QUICKLY put a hundred in it and the buttons ALL sprung to life!!!

With the exception of a really bad set of reels and strips, the game is super. I do need to order the sound simm for it. I'm sure the Bonus Spins sound MUCH better with a sound simm.....
