Title: MONTE CARLO codes 83-1 and 91 C1 in progressive
Post by: jer3270 on September 22, 2011, 06:52:41 PM
Just picked up my dream machine!!!!!! And it's not working :103-  When I powered it up for the first time, I was getting a C1 in the progressive and a 91 code in  the window, when I opened the door AND the machine would not play or take bills. I performed a safe ram clear with the chips and I get a code 83-9 flashing in the window now and a 91 when I open the door and the C1 is still flashing in the progressive. Any ideas? You guys are truly the best for helping us slot hobby geeks !!! thank you!!!  :131- :131- :131-

I believe the 91 code has to do with the progressive.  You need to set option 2 to 0004 and option 7 to 0001.  I would start over and do a full safe ram.

How do I change options ?  I've seen how to do a full safe-ram clear, but I don't know what to do after that ? I've read it can be a real headache if you don't know how to do it. What settings do I n to write down and how do I get to them? Thanks for the help!

The option settings depend on how your machine is set up, such as does it accept coins, does it have a printer etc.  The bally s6000 manual has the safe-ram clear procedure.  Do you have the manual?  You'll have to tell us exactly how machine is equipped too.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The machine has a BV, printer and the progressive. I think currently it is set up for a coin acceptor(when I power it on the solenoid for the deflector clicks but there is not a coin acceptor in it. Thank you again for the help!

Before you get to far into programming issues I would check all plug connections between the top box and motherboard and especially check to make sure there is a black molex plugged into the front of the MPU board when you open the door. It's right in front. When I had the 91-1 code with the corresponding C1 code on the progressive it was a low battery on the progressive controller board. You'll save a lot of hassle later by checking these things first.

Also, there are specific settings on Monte Carlos for the progressive to work. If someone doesn't post them by the time I get back to town this afternoon I'll put them up for you. There's 10 or 12 options that need to be set a certain way

Finally got a chance to check battery voltage on the progressive. It is at 2.7 volts ? Is that enough? I've learned a lot about the IGT's from you guys. This is my first BALLY and don't know a thing about it. Thanks for any help!

And if I change the battery in the progressive, will it save the programming or will I have to send it out to get programmed ? thanks for the help!

I have a Monte Carlo as well. If you change the battery you will have to do a full clear. You can avoid this by doing a "Bally battery mod" which is posted. (just do a search) You install a single battery pack from radio shack. When you get a low battery error you can trick the machine and replace it while it is running without doing a clear. I do it with all Bally games. It's great :88- I saw someone may have the codes for you, follow all of them set by step and let us know if they work.

The progressive battery(ChamII) is rechargeable and will charge as the machine(progressive controller) is left turned on.  I always reccomend that you turn a progressive machine on at least one day a month and for min 4 hours.  If you did change the battery, it would have to be the same and with the loss of voltage, so would be the loss of memory.

Thanks,
Wayne

Is there a way I can disconnect the progressive for now while I figure it out,and be able to play the game without it? And do I need different clear chips to get the 83-1 to clear? I'm a beginner at this BALLY thing,Thanks again for all the help! you guys are awesome!!!

Here are the settings for the Monte Carlo as detailed by a69mopar last year.

I believe that these only applied to single spin versions. Wayne, please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you had your location in your profile, then maybe someone near you could help you out.  I always suggest filling out your profile, at least with a general area anyway. Californians, please feel free to lie.  :96-
