It is too early to think about buying stuff for Christmas, I haven't bought any Halloween items, and what about Thanksgivings Day?

Those are SO over from a retail shopping perspective. Don't you know that you were supposed to buy your Halloween candy last Valentine's day? :279- :127-  :81- :99- :99-
I bought my Thanksgiving turkey late this year – on the 3rd of July.  :169- usa_flag :BBQ-  I'm cooking it verrry slowly. It's about halfway done.  :7- :7-

California DMV is getting hungrier too. I got one of my motorcycle registration renewal notices a couple weeks ago, the reg expires 12/28. :279- :25- :30-

Oh, and they processed my new car transfer of ownership on 7/21, didn't bother to tell me it expired 7/27 or I woulda paid them on the spot. They sent me the registration dated 8/11, it was already expired for 2 weeks when they printed the form! :5- :200- I didn't notice this small detail... :60-

So, I walk out to the garage on the 25th of September, see the July and 2011 stickers on it, so I go down to AAA, pay the reg and get mah stickerz... :136-  .

A week after I renew the registration, they send me a notification in the mail that my reg is late and I owe the reg fees plus a $115 penalty!!! :132- :132- :132- :132-

Dumbasses, I've already got mah stickerz and there's no way they're gittin' another dime outta me!  :96- :72- :97- :208- :97- :72- :96-

It's all part of KaliPhornia's new BS policy of conveniently "forgetting" to remind you when you're registration is due and then lying to you by telling you that the reason they're not reminding you is that it saves money printing the renewal forms, when the true reason is to punish people with late fees to raise revenue.

What I want to know is what I'm supposed to "take" to AAA next year to renew my registration when the state doesn't send out anything. I'm also wondering how I'm supposed to remember whether or not I need a smog check with that registration that they're not going to be sending me. :37- :37-

I'm sick of this state. :81-

I've got the cure for that... They can't charge you a late fee if you pay the reg on time, so just pay the reg and make them send you notification of the pending smog! If everyone does it, they'll see the folly of their ways and start sending the notifications again... :89- :71- :91- :96- :208-

Don't count on it. This is Kaliphornia. Leave it to them to fine us for not sending in the smog cert that they didn't tell us was necessary. I see this ending up in court. I do have a reminder in Quicken to pay the registration but of course, without the notification, I'll have no easy way of knowing how much to pay until I get to the window. :279- :81-

The DMV might set something up on their website to tell us what we're supposed to pay, but I don't have to tell anyone how hard it can be to navigate a government website. Due to the size of the state, KA's websites are as complicated as the Federal government's (or more so). Anyone wanting to mail in the payment will be forced to use the website (if they provide the info) or call the DMV and wait on hold for an hour.

They won't fine you, they just hold your stickers.

(not that I've ever had any experience driving cars that wouldn't pass smog in our beautiful state... :187- :187-)

... so then you get a ticket for having an outdated registration on your plate.  :58-  AND the state will have to mail you something telling you that you're stickers were withheld, which all but defeats the purported purpose of the new law (but not the real purpose, of course.)

And what of those whom the state decides need to go to a test only station? Are they supposed to know that through osmosis, or by calling the psychic hotline. :52-
Or are they going to have to pay for a second smog check AFTER the state tells them that the one they submitted is no good.... or are citizens expected to trust the slew of honest smog check stations around the state to tell them that their car can't be smogged at that station before they've paid? :103-
 :101-

I pity the busy family with four cars, a trailer and a boat with kids in college using some of the cars. :60- They'd better have a reliable electronic reminder system in place!

Your post =my point. We simply make them realize their gambit puts them in an unwinnable position and they'll resign. :-)

The last time I'm aware of ths happening to anyone I know was 2 years ago. The CHP has limited access to the DMV database, they can tell if you paid the fees, but nothing more. You can't legally be fined (same as you can't legally be ticketed or arrested for driving on a suspended license) until there is proof in the system that you were formally notified of the reason things are not kosher. LEOs have a special form in CA that you will have to sign when they pull you over and see you have a suspended license, that form is the same one the DMV sends you to sign when they suspend your license. It must be signed and returned or they have no proof you've been legally notified. In the case of registration, the LEO can't see why the reg wasn't completed, and your story is "I paid the money, they haven't sent me the tags". Then the LEO needs to enter the stop data into t he system and the DMV must legally send you the reason the reg isn't complete.

And yes, the procedure in CA is very convoluted and inefficient, that's a result of our state coddling the scofflaws. In AZ they'd just give you a ticket and you'd have to do all the legwork to finish the registration, and that's after you took off Sheriff Joe's pink underwear! :208- :208- :208- :97- :97- :72- :72-

 :208- :208- :208- :208-

I can see it now. A Line-'O-Limousines (LOL :96-) well stocked with expensive liquor (and ice, of course) leaving Sacramento to return the simple un-civil servants to their respective communities where their constituents wait with open arms, clubs and bats to welcome home their piñatas - er, uh, representatives – and all of it covered in depth on the six o'clock news Entertainment Tonight. :5-

Oh, did you mean that they'd resign to repealing the new law?? :200- :30- :30- :72- :72- :72-

We could only wish for the former, although it would be the more desirable of the 2 options...  :30- :30- :283- :283- :283- :125- :125-

In retrospect - which governor do the Californians think did a better job?
Or did they just both carry over on the same stuff and continue to make things progressively worse?  :5-
Personally I thought Ronald Reagan was the best ever!  :208-
Piece of crap couldn't be-better-than-a-B-movie-actor that performed an
Oscar-winning performance in gathering the public votes!  :97-

Charlie Sheen will be the next governor of Cali...you watch! lol

Not sure if you are being serious or not and I don't want to get into politics as it can tend to get  :125-, but I do think he was one of the best. Of course I am a bit baised because I was in the military under his watch, and he did a LOT to get our military back in shape. Unlike after when Clinton took over and we could not even get toilet paper, let alone needed parts.  :60-

BTW, this has to be one of the top :266-   :72-

lol I wasn't serious Poppo... :72-

I was just saying that the acting abilities to gather votes far outweigh
whatever knowledge these guys have of politics...     :97-

Basically it comes down to that if you want to be Gov of Cal. ... all you
have to do is look the part, act the part, then you win the part. :96-

Seems to hold true for presidential elections too.
