You need a set chip to re-enable the bill validator after changing the game chip. A set015 or set026 works best for home users.
Set015 is more common, but set026 supports penny denomination for game chips that allow it.

SP709 is Type 0, 1, 4, 5, 12(fever)
SP922 and SP1253 are Type 0, 1, 4, 5, 14(Tournament)

What game themes do you own? (SS reel chips store the game information)

Unless you own a fever game (unlikely) you don't need to use SP709. If you need a tournament chip, the SP1311 is a better chip than the SP1253. Otherwise, I'd just get an SP1271 and forget about these others. You shouldn't need to change your game chip for most game theme changes.

As far as your DBV goes, it won't make any difference. The dbv145 will work will all of these game chips. As you get more addicted to involved with your machines, you might want to upgrade the DBV. The 145 doesn't support the newer color bills. But let's table that for now.

Kibble,
I am pretty much sure when after you read this PSR I sent you...you'll see which cetain SET chips you need to buy to get your DBV enabled again.
The DBV45 doesnt accept the newer bills. You need to save older bills in order to use it at home.

I am still wondering if you are changing it to a SP1271 as in the title or a SP1253?

You could upgrade to the DBV 200 head that takes all bill except the new $5 and the set 15 will work on your new Game chips I have available the DBV 200 and set 15 B en

But for the home user that doesn't need to set up SAS, XMISER, or MISER, a SET015 or SET026 is all they need to enable the dbv for any SP chip. It's only when he gets into setting up a progressive that he'll need another SET chip. :71- The PSR set chip information is geared towards casinos setting up SAS.

Good catch stayouttadabunker.

I have the chip set got it off of EBay. Could it be the wrong kind? it says IGT B6B7 val set. I have tried to set it 4 or 5 times, but evertime it rejects all bills with the sp1271  (typo with the sp1253) but when I put in the sp709 it works fine again. Could the bill validator be going bad? When I got this machine last month nothing worked on it because the previous owner dropped it, this was the last part i had to get working on the machine, took weeks and lot of help from this group to get the machine up and running completely and was worth it . tonight i am going to try again and if it does not work I see fanninislots has both the chip set and the dvb head. Ill let you know what happens.

I started with a 3 coin triple diamond This one I can get a mystery reel action on. got to make the wife happy.
acquired a 2 coin 5X pay and a 3 coin Double Double diamond last week with reel chips.

With those game themes, your SP1271 should be all you need, except for the Mystery Reel action mod. Here is a copy of SP1271.

I have tried to set it 4 or 5 times, but evertime it rejects all bills with the sp1271  (typo with the sp1253) but when I put in the sp709 it works fine again.

Do you mean that you use the SET chip for both the 709 and the 1271, or do you mean that when you put the 709 back into the machine and that the dbv comes back up on its own?

B6B7 is the valid hex checksum of SET026. :103- :103- It should work for both SP chips if it is labeled correctly.

I use the set chip for both chips.

The SP 709 uses a different BV Protocol, you need ID 022 for the SP 709 and ID 023 for the newer chip, if you have a DBV-145SS you will need to change the BV Eprom, if you have a WBA or a DBV-200 it is  dipswitch setting, we have the correct software, it is not the Set Chip causing the problem, it is the BV software, if wrong protocol, it will pull the bill in, hold it for a few seconds then return it back out

hmmm... :103- :103-

Okay. I just tried my SET026 with an SP1271. It works fine (and the 1271 supports 1 cent). I currently have DBV200 heads but I used to have 145s and I've used this same chip for years.

<EDIT> Thanks for the solution Blueridge!  :131- :3-

It sounds like he should just buy a DBV200 or a WBA. That will solve this problem and get him 4 way support of the color money. I'd go with the WBA.

The DBV200 is the easier change as you only have to change the head and maybe a power supply.  The other way (WBA) you need to change dbv cage, transport, power supply, etc.

The drawback is that the life cycle for the DBV200 is pretty much over, so you may no be able to get anything new as far as new bill acceptance, which is the case for pretty much any S+ protocol anyway, unless JCM releases the already developed (but not IGT sanctioned) WBA new $5 software.

Rumor has it that there is the same unlreased $5.00 update for the DBV200.

Personally I am waiting for someone to publish a guide so I can write my own bill validation software and mint my own money.  :72-

I figure I might be waiting a long time.....  :149-
