Title: Williams 40X (Dotmation) reels Post by: Buzz on October 06, 2011, 04:47:20 AM I think I figured out a way to quiet down the noisy reel on a Williams 40X machine ( Dotmation )
1 remove the reel basket from the motor. 2 remove the motor from the reel stand. 3 disassemble the reel motor. Four screws that look like Phillips head screws, are really reed and prince cross head screws. Before messing up the screw head take a #2 Phillip head screw driver and with a small hammer drive the screw driver into the head. Doesn't take much. Remove the 4 screws, and remove the back half of the motor. There is no need to remove the roll pin that's used as a cross shaft. You may need to tap on the front cover with a reg. screw driver and small hammer to get it broke loose. Once the front cover is loose pull the armature out. ( some resistance will be felt as the armature is a magmet.) Look around inside the motor for anything broken ( I didn't find anything ) I did wiped the fields with a white rag and found no dirt at all. I didn't find anything wrong inside the motor, so I put it all back together. I didn't use any oil or grease anywhere. When I first removed the motor from the stand, it was difficult to turn by hand, after disassembling and reassembling the motor it now turns very easy. Bottom line is I tore a motor apart and put it back together and that fixed the noisy reel problem. First one worked so good I did 5 more reels and all of them spin very quietly now. I don't know WHY, I do know it works!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
