Title: Bally 809 - another new problem
Post by: shortrackskater on October 09, 2011, 12:04:31 AM
My coin accepted light is working as it should, all the time. Now I have a new problem (Jim - I ordered the book) :
This happens randomly and not every time. If I hit a single cherry (with one coin played) or three watermelons...the hopper just keeps paying until it runs out of coins. Anyone have this problem?

Sorry I don't know much about the 809, but I am looking at picking one up that does not work.  I had a similar problem with my 5000+.  just above the knife on the hopper is a switch that the quarter press against.  this lever then presses a switch that counts the coin as it goes out.  My hopper was missing a screw that was supposed to be at the end of the lever allowing you to adjust the amount of pressure being applied to the switch.  The switch was not being pressed so the coin was not being counted hence the slot continued to dump coins until the hopper was empty.  Hope this helps.

Well you have two choices... First is to go to your local hardware store and buy a replacement screw and jam nut, or second would be two bend the lever on the switch till you have it counting correct...

Thank you both...that was one of my first problems. It was always paying/emptying the hopper for any pay out. The first thing I did was bend that lever and it fixed the problem. This started happening again, but only on single cherry or sometimes three watermelon payouts. As I started really looking at things, I realized this was occurring when one reel was not spinning all the time and found out that particular wiper was not retracting back fully. Once I fixed that, the payout returned to  a l m o s t  normal. And this new problem I've posted here as well, but have not had a reply yet. It's just paying short sometimes...like 2 coins short for small payouts, or 15 coins short on larger ones. But, again this is already posted so I'll just hope people will see THAT one. I did order the Bally book by Mead publishing but one one I got was missing 20 pages so I'm waiting for a replacement.

thanks
Gary

Foxslots (he's here and on ebay) and ebay in general have been my source for Bally stuff. Mine was complete so I haven't needed much of anything other than one switch and the book, which I highly recommend thanks to Jim! It's available on ebay or from Mead publishing company. It's called "Owner's Pictorial Guide for the care and understanding of the Bally Slot Machine." Long title! This one covers the 809 and, from what I've read, is MUCH easier to understand than any other one I've had.

I can't find my other post. Maybe I never did post that...so consider this my NEW OLD post!!! It's quoted concisely above.

Hey thanks for the lead on the parts.  I might go look at it tomorrow and if I can get it for a good price I might pick it up.    :3-

Take the hopper and reel assembly before you pick it up...makes it much easier. And make sure there aren't coins stuck all around the inside too! That can be a problem. If there's corrosion in it, beware! Hope you get a good price on it.

Remember you can use the classified here too for parts. Some members like my self do have some older Bally parts. Like Shortrackskater said too is that Foxsslots is a good source for parts. Good luck. Gary
