I need to get the code to turn on my bill validator. I think you have to have a chip too. Does anyone know where I can get one.

What make and model machine are you dealing with?

We need to know whether you have an S+ or an S2000.

The easiest way to tell is that an S2000 will have a long, blue, scrolling alphabetic display on the reel glass below the left and middle reels. If you have an S+, there will be two windows, each with 4-digit red LEDs that only display numbers.

If the only issue is that the validator is indeed disabled, you'll need a special chip to enable it. We'll be able to help you more once we know what machine we're dealing with... and I'll be able to move this thread to the correct board. :96- :72-

Ok then it is a S+. sorry I just got it and don't know much about them. The guy I got it from said that is works but just needs a code.

I'll need two pieces of information: the game (SP) chip number and to know whether or not your validator is enabled.

Open the door and look for a white test button. It will probably be next to the power switch or on the backside of the power switch (you'll have to feel behind it with your finger.)

The exact procedure for getting this info depends on which SP chip you have so I'll give you both scenarios.

You'll either press the test button twice and see a  "2  n" (where n= 0 or 1) in the Winner Paid/Credit windows and a 0 in the coins played window OR
you'll press the test button three times and see a "5  n" (where n= 0 to 3) in the Winner Paid/Credit windows and a 0 in the coins played window.
It's more important to see the "2  something" or the "5  something" than how many presses it takes to get there.

At that point, turn the jackpot reset key (right side of the machine) several times until you see "9  n" in the Win/Cr windows. If it's "9  0" then your validator is turned off and you'll need a set chip. If it's "9  1" then it's enabled and there is another problem.

Close the door and wait for the machine to reset. Open the door and press the test button several times until you see a 4 in the coins played window. There should be two sets of numbers alternating in the Winner Paid/Credit windows. Write them down and post them.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. So I just did the text and it said 9 0 so guess I need a set chip. the flashing code was "2" then "4081"

Yes, if you saw a "9  0" then you will need a set chip. The value "2" just indicates that it's a type 2 game. 4081 represents your SS chip (reel chip). It's a 92.375% 3-coin Haywire.
There should have been another three or four digit number (perhaps with a leading zero.) It will probably be a number between 600 and 1300.

In the credits line it said "0686". Does that help.

That is just a really old type 2 (haywire) game chip. On the plus side, any set chip should enable the BV.

That is definitely an older one. The PSR states that it uses a SET005, but poppo is probably right and it should take a SET015 or a SET026.

As long as you're buying, you might want to consider changing you all of your chips. Just a thought.

You could swap the SP0686 with an SP1274.
Swap the SS4081 (92.375%) with an SS4211 (98.028%) or the highest payout chip the vendor has, as long as it's higher than yours*.
Get the correct SET chip for the SP1274: a SET088, SET091, or SET101.

It also wouldn't hurt to buy a clear chip for future use. You won't need it very often, and possibly not for years, but you will need it at some point. IMHO, every S+ owner should have one in a drawer. Just lock the drawer so you're not tempted to overuse it! :96- :72- :72-

I have a clear chip and a set chip. When I got the slot machine the battery was dead and they kept it and replaced it and I just got the board back. They also sent me the chips with it. where would I go to get the chips that you said I needed. If I get those chips will it make the bill validater work.

On the last step, where it says close the door and turn the reset key, be sure the door is closed AND latched.

If you're not buyin' you can skip the new SP and SS chips.

The replacements would enhance your experience (better payback, faster credit counting, more options) but aren't a necessity. Shipping for four or five chips would have been the same as for one chip and the vendor might have given you a package deal on the set.

I used the clear and set chip and ran through the directions. I my validater still does not work.

Ok, if you go back to the beginning of the thread, does it now show 9_1 and did you set a denomination?

What does it do or not do (does it take a bill and reject it or not take one at all)? Does it cycle when you power it up?  Might check this thread out.

Bulk buy from the same vendor a SP1274, Set088, Set015 (for just the validator enable when you loose it) , A clear chip for when you need it and a better SS chip if wanted. 5 chips with shipping and instructions should be around $85 or less if bought at the same time.

Ok now when I win the machine does not keep credits on the machine it spits out coins. How do I change it to keep my credits .

With no credits on the machine <----important , open the door and press the self test button a few times umtil you have 0 on the coins played and 5_x on the winner paid. Press the spin button to change it to 5_2.  Press the self test button one. Close the door and you should be good to go.

BTW, this is why we recommend not to use a clear chip unless absolutely nesessary. You then will have to go back in and change non-default settings that were previously on the machine.

Why does everyone on NLG persist in telling folks to use setting "5  2"? (poppo, it's not just you.) That is still a manual option which I would only suggest if the person said that they wanted to turn off credit mode once in a while and have all pays drop directly into the tray.  :60-

Setting "5  0" puts the machine in automatic credit mode, which means that the player doesn't have to worry about the state of the change button before starting to play. It's the mode most casinos used throughout the S-plus' reign.

HeatherR3180, SP686 uses the DIP Switches on the MPU board, but even if the hopper limit switches were already set to "programmable in the setup menu" the default value was probably reset to 300. Any single win above the hopper limit will "lock up" as a jackpot.

<EDIT> I'm attaching I sent you a copy of the PSR for both SP686 and SP731 via email. The older PSRs (your 686) don't really detail anything. There is no breakdown of the setting options. It's possible that the chip doesn't support all of the options found in the SP731, but at least that document will give you all of the details missing in the other one. However, I'm pretty sure that your SP686 will do everything listed in the SP731 PSR.

That case was certainly an exception. I'll still go with "5 0" every time. I've never played an S+ with the credit option turned off since I always want to have the credits to play with. I also never wanted to hit a 750 coin payout with the credit light out. :96-

Part of the reason some of us like playing machines that still use coins is to hear that ching ching ching on payouts and like to drop coins in.  Depending on my mood, I may leave it set to credit or to pay out.

I like to play the S+ in coin mode to hear the Ching!!!, But I like the credit mode when the grandkids are over and want the coins/token out of reach. "Chucky Cheese here we come....I hit the jackpot on Poppys machine !!!!!"  :3- :3-

When I get in that mood I just hit cash out after every payout, but I like the fact that I'm given a choice after the fact instead of before. If I hit something really large and don't want to fill the tray with all those credits then I leave them on the machine and play them off.

Actually, I rarely hit cash out after any win. If I want to play with coins I'll just play until the number of credits left seems about right, then cash them out and put them back in. Again, I get the choice of whether or not to repeat the process after I'm done depending on how many credits I've ended up with.

It's all a matter of personal preference.
