Machine is reading "inputs shorted".   How do I fix this?

What make and model or year of manufacture is the machine?

It is  a IGT S2000, year 2007

I've seen a lot of error codes on S2000 machines because I'm just lucky that way, but yours is a new one on me. Sounds like one of your peripheral devices has a short in the wiring between it and the MPU or the device itself. You might start by checking for shorted connections on player panel buttons, top candle and any place where a switch(ie: door, belly door, cash box or main door)was bypassed for efficiancy of operation to make sure nothing is touching anything it's not supposed to.

When I first turn the machine on  it reads "display's netplex link is down"

My bonus game machines do that for just a couple seconds till the system cycles. What theme are you running? What's the name of the game?

I've never seen it either. Just to give you something to do, remove the MPU and look for any pins on the back side plug that might have gotten bent.  ( Long shot at best )

Has to be something with door.  It is reading "door open M" with the door closed.

Like Buzz said, check the pins in the sockets of the MPU and maybe pull the reels and make sure the power supply behind it is seated properly. I'd say check all your plugs, but you don't have a loose plug, you've got a short. Without having seen this the best I can assume is that you've got a bare wire touching ground or another wire somewhere. Start at the door and work your way through the wiring loom. Pay close attention to areas like the door hinge where a wire may have rubbed enough to breach the plastic insulation. Is there any sign of liquid having been spilled in the machine where the residue could be causing a short?

It will show that till you close the door securely and it can reset without errors. Open and securely latch the door a few times, maybe everything will clear up

Replaced I/O board from other machine and got rid of "inputs shorted"  It is now showing "Reel 3 Tilt".  Any ideas?

Check the 3rd reel.
Open and close the door.

Machine is working, wire on door optic had come loose.  Thanks ken @ Ohio gaming.

That's kinda strange how a bad door optic wire would cause a reel tilt error?  :72-

Bunker, if the optics lose connection while the reels are spinning you'll get that error. That's why I bypassed all mine, was getting to be a pain in the a$$ with a couple of them

Opening the door while reels are spinning will cause a reel tilt. Most often a general reel tilt. Any reel not fully seated back or rubbing will show up as a specific reel tilt. any optics out of a alignment will trigger a tilt and m door open . you cant clear the tilts  until you correct the door open error first . Some time its also in the main board  if bad . door optics can make you crazy if they wont clear 

I agree...that's why I wholly endorse bypassing the door optics
and utilizing a cherry switch instead.
