Title: Bally Alpha Diagnostic Question......
Post by: slotsx2 on October 19, 2011, 09:14:47 PM
Getting Mechanical Reels Not Configured error message.

Machine is dead in the water. It powers up completely, but does nothing. No bet or spin buttons light up, no bill validator lights up, but I can hear it power up..... Anyone out there know anything about an Alpha yet? This happened because I brushed a reel with my arm while I had the reel glass open and spun the reels trying to find a noise, and sent the machine into reel tilt! They spin fine when you start the machine up, but that's as far as it will go! You can calibrate the reels, but that doesn't help at all...

Clearing reel tilts of these is a bitch. In your error messages do you get a tilt for specific reel or just a general reel tilt error ? We have had a few go down where it was the actual reel unit which has a controller board on the unit (found a schematic for this board in the EVO manual but have not yet investigated what is failing). Try swapping out reels to see if problem follows any specific reel. If that does not help I am back at work on Friday and will post more detailed test instructions. Apart from the reel tilt issue these machines are pretty solid

MECHANICAL REELS NOT CONFIGURED

Aside from the reels spinning up on boot up, the reels and machine is DEAD after I get the above error message!

I called Bally and was told it was RCU board, REEL CONTROL UNIT.

$110 wasted!!!

And the guy I got that card from, now says it's the reels..... waiting on price for those!

I had this problem pop up on a couple of machines after clearing and setting up the game.  In one case it was a matter of changing out a particular reel controller board....but in two other cases the solution was to go to Diagnostics....Game...then touch the "Calibrate Reels" button...sometimes I had to do it twice and it worked after that.

Every since I bought this machine the reels have grunted badly. and I do mean loudly.
I can calibrate the reels all day long, doesnt help.......

The latest thing going on with my Bally Alpha S9000........
Watch and LISTEN as I turn the beast on!!

The video was too large in size so I had to shrink it. If you look CLOSELY  you can see the MPU lights flashing on and off....

The sound of the reels cycling is normal.  The solenoid clicking and intermittent lights suggest to me that the power supply on the MPU board is bad.
