Tis made by Bell Fruit of England. Tis not repaired yet, so it doesn't count as a proper repair. I will ask a moderator repair to move it. The information I thought might be useful to others. I hope to post more information as it gets repaired. Next one is a fun and legendary video machine....

That would be me. :200- I'll move this thread. This is an unusual slot. Even a straight list documenting all of the chips might help someone repair theirs one day. Post solutions here as you find them. If you have a question instead of a solution, just start a new thread in the video board where you started this one.

Thanks, Stat. I couldnt find anything on this machine or the next one I am on, except for a bunch of stories. I am hoping the tech information may be of use to someone along the way in the future.

[EDIT] figured out the next step. To be able to use a standard arcade game switching power supply, the board DOEs use +5 +12 and -5 since it uses the 9980 CPU chip. The pinouts are as follows:

1 unknown, orange wire
2 ground
3 +12 volts or so
4
5 -15 volts or so
6 ground
7 ground
8 +5 volts
9 +5 volts


In order to use the switcher, the board has a 7812, a 7912 and a 79l05 set of voltage regulators. you need to remove all 3 of these then jumper the ins and outs together. This will bring the -5 volts to pin 5 and +12 volts to pin 3. The 3 voltages must be kept isolated from the old power supply. I dont know the function of the orange wire so the plan here is to make an intercept harness where only the orange pin 1 and a ground go back to the old power supply and the switcher is attached to the new ones. Getting the harness connectors today so am hoping to do it this week and see if it works...

Follow the orange wire through the traces on the game board... Some of the older arcade games had an off-board reset circuit that was built into the power supply board.

UPDATE on this repair: Added in power supply wiring, added in brackets for main boxes to mount them (there seemed to be no mounting or holder method for the main transformer box, bleah!). Best location for the new swticher is on the left side, but a SSR unit needs to move to give it room.

Tried, unit was dead. Traces down to a super intermittent power switch. Removed and bypassed power switch with owner's ok. Unit comes up, mostly blue screen, garbage on it, rolling.

Was informed by owner that this kind of unit takes about 30 seconds to come out of reset, which sort of surprised me. Still stayed in garbage.Has 3 LEDs, 3 fuses for main power (didn't make the power mod just yet, was hoping the switch was root cause). 2 power LEDs are out, fuse check this morning.

My own switcher I installed has no -5 volts so I cannot use it, owner will bring a new one. Main CPU chip looked browned out from heat, I should find a heatsink and install on it, on general principles. The main CPU is the fun and rare TMS9980. Bout 40 bucks on ebay from 2 sellers.

K, had it fixed, temporarily. Re-capped the entire main power supply board. I also upped a resistor, there is a 3.3 1 watt resistor that runs hot as heck, so I replaced with a 5 watt resistor and cleaned it up. Some coild solderings were loose, revamped them./ My friend brought over 3 more power supplies that I did the same repairs to.

2 pwer supplies came up fine, 1 missed a voltage and one is missing a part, so will purchase.

Had used one of the working power supplies, and it i camed up GREAT. Let it run an hour, worked perfectly. Owner happy as heck.

owner and potential buyer came out here last night. Ran it another hour for the owner. He was a most happy camper. Then 30 minutes before the buyer showed up, IT @#$^&%@@&% DIED :( Humming sound, blank screen., All voltage LEDs still on.

Am going to replace the caps and voltage regulators on the main motherboard since it has some T0220 ones. The hum, I think there is a short. Thankfully, I made the chip list above, I couldnt find it on my computer, so had printed it out :D will update as I get it back to good state. Am thankful I also had saved the eproms to my computer, as a good just in case. :D
 
After this one is done, the spare power supplies will be for sale, will offer then up here possibly.
