Title: S+ and Spectrum Display Post by: dcslots on October 21, 2011, 02:33:07 PM I asked this question of someone and was told it was probably not doable...but before I give up, wanted to post it and see if anyone has a different opinion or knowledge on this:
The Machine: IGT S+ Upright, 16" Top Box. The Game: RWB 2 CN Tournament Game The proposed Display: Spectrum Display kit (per Ken at Ohio Slots) The question...is it possible to install this display and have it display information other than a progressive jackpot....ie, the amount of a win on a spin or even better the total accumulated winnnings during tournament play or both? The more detail you can give on this the better. As we all know, I am as good a tech as Elmer Fudd is a Rabbit Killer. :30- Title: Re: S+ and Spectrum Display Post by: StatFreak on October 21, 2011, 06:10:01 PM I don't know much about these but from what I've read aound here, the Spectrum uses the Netplex communication protocol designed for the S2000. I don't know if you can bypass the protocol and drive the display directly but if not, you'd be much better off getting a display that can interface with the S+. I highly doubt that it would be worth the effort to try to decipher and emulate Netplex just to get this display to work in an S+. That's my 2¢ FWIW.

After talking to him on the phone and then mentioning that he wanted different opitions than a standard progressive display I then mentioned that I didn't think the S+ Spectrum unit would be doable for what he is wanting and could only be set up as a standard progressive. Key 91 info below.
USING THE SET 91 CHIP Turn the machine power off. Remove the old game chip. Install the set chip. Turn the machine power on. Credits window = set chip version. Winner Paid window = any tilts detected during power up. 65_3 Advisory Message: If the set chip determines that the game options and meters can be upgraded to the most current format, Winner Paid window = 65_3. Turning the jackpot reset key automatically upgrades the game options and meters to the most current format, and allows the set chip to be used to modify the options listed in this document. Please note that turning the jackpot reset key upgrades the game, which may no longer be compatible with the old game data format (i.e., if reinstalling the old game, data may not be restored without losing game options and meters). Turn the power off. Remove the set chip. Install the new game chip. 65_4 Advisory Message: When upgrading an old program, if the set chip is unable to upgrade the game options and meters, Winner Paid window = 65_4. The new game must be installed before the set chip can be used. Please note that all game options and meters will be lost when installing the new game. To clear this tilt, turn the power off. Stat :31- I think it was last winter ( or was it the winter before last? lol ) I was trying to hook up an S+ double progressive display to an S2000. I had no luck with that little project... :60- Thanks to the Foster for trying to help me out with that mess! :71- Title: Re: S+ and Spectrum Display Post by: Foster on October 21, 2011, 09:51:39 PM When I had a S+ and either the mini photon or S+ Spectrum (I have a couple of them as well) when in tournament mode it could increment the display (I believe it acted as a second total win display.
When the S+ is in tournament mode the player display: one display shows the total credits won and the other window was the credits remaining if you set the tournament up that way. note this is the only time the S+ would allow credits over 9999. Title: Re: S+ and Spectrum Display Post by: StatFreak on October 21, 2011, 10:48:46 PM I did not know that they made a spectrum specifically for the S+. I learned something new today. :131- :3-
:259- guys. :88- The question is, why would they do that when they were trying to force casinos to buy the S2000 and dump their S-pluses? :103- Title: Re: S+ and Spectrum Display Post by: coorslight115 on October 21, 2011, 10:49:18 PM In tournament mode the S+ progressive displayes show the total dollars won so far in the tournament. These were used alot on Megabucks machines with two stacked displays, the top one bigger than the bottom one. Noone really says it but the newer progressives are actually SPECTRUM II's! For i960 netplex. I am pretty sure that there are SPECTRUM III's now too, but I have never seen that beast! Maybe you have learned something else new today? That should answer your question too...
