Title: E-Series Hopper help needed
Post by: mavrik8511 on October 27, 2011, 07:58:05 PM
Now that I have fixed my 41 error code, I cant get the hopper to start for pay-out. If I run the hopper test, the motor does not start and of course I get the "Hopper Empty" error code. Does the hopper have to have coins in it for it to work in test mode or should the motor start without coins? If I reset the machine and play it, if I hit anything (single cherry), the payout light comes on but the motor for the hopper does not start. Is there a switch in these hoppers that detects if there is no coins? Is the motor bad? How do I check it? The manual is no help here.

The hopper motor runs on 110 volts.
Disconnect the hopper board and you
can test the motor by putting 110 to it.

Is this the hopper board you have in your machine? I would check CR11 & CR12 to see if they are good. They tend to crack causing the board to fail.. Also Q3 the Mac15 Trac fails causing the motor not to work.. Some earlier Bally E-Series Machines have a small circuit board with a relay on them located near the Hopper plug on the bottom or back of the machine. Those relays can go bad too.. I would pull the hopper from the machine and unplug and remove the hopper board. Then I would test the hopper motor with a 110V directly to the motor leads.. Once again if you do test it this way the hopper control board MUST BE UNPLUGGGED AND REMOVED as not to damage it!!!

If you look close at the pic you can see the damage to the boards trace from CR12 to Q2 then to Q3. This was caused by the diode on CR12 being bad and then Mac15 at Q3. I replaced both CR11 and CR12 then Q3, fixed the trace and the board was good to use again..

I apparently have a 1000 series board in my 2000 series game. After looking at the schematic for the board, it looks like it is wired correctly. So I guess the next step is to rebuild the board???

Ok. here's what I have so far. Rebuilt the hopper board (series 1000 in a series 2000 game). Still no power to the motor. Tested the input at pin 8 and have 110v. What is the relay for at the back of the hopper? Would this affect the power to the board? Anything else I should look for? The motor works fine with power directly to it.

Is this the relay you are seeing?
It is the delay relay.
Do you have another hopper you can compare the
plug wiring to?
Here is the plug pinout if that helps.

That is the relay although it is mounted to a small board. I have another hopper that I have compared the plug wiring to but there are 3 extra wires that are not on the machine I am working on. Other hopper doesnt work either.  Cant read the color code on the diagram you sent me. Do you have the color and pin numbers by chance?

Well here is my dilema. I have rebuilt the hopper baord and the hopper works as I tried it in another machine. I still get no payout. So I am assuming that the CPU is not sending (or the hopper is not getting) the message to start the motor. Does anyone have a schematic and can tell me which wire I need to be looking at to trace this down??
