Title: Fortune I Sony Trinitron Monitor
Post by: mantaramian on October 29, 2011, 12:34:45 AM
I picked up a Fortune I that the video sync will not hold. Its a Sony Trinitron monitor. Are there any suggestions? According to the person I picked it up from said it used to work, it only needed to warm up.

does his sound like the need for a cap kit? and if so where to buy?

Thanks.

I was wondering if you ever found a fix for this problem. I am fighting vertical hold issue and thinking mine might be a cap problem also.

Thinks for the inquire, I did end up capping out the monitor and surprise, the darn thing worked, the picture locked right in. (talk about a lot of caps..... :103-

I hope this is some use to you since I never did receive any recommendations....

But that's what we are here for.....

Did you find some one with a cap kit or did you just replace all the ones you could find?

I replaced them all. I was able to write down the values of al caps and ordered them from a company with no minimums. I ordered a little bit of an inventory in the event I need some for another project.

Cap kits work most of the time.  They dry out.  A fairly cheap fix, not counting your time....

Now I just have to identify the machine and im good. I am just curious about it, its kind of nice to know the history on all my machines but this one has no numbers just says fortune coin on the front.

Thanks again for the help I really want to get this thing working 100% and the only prob now is the v-hold so it should be done soon i hope.

Please post some pics.  I don't remember much of that history, but I met Sy Redd in the early 70's when he was still with Bally, and before he started IGT.  I don't recall if Fortune came after Sircoma or not, but perhaps someone here with a better memory can fill us in on this history.
Sounds like a fun machine, good on you.
As I recall, I have heard nothing but good about the Trinitron.  I think later they went with RGB, which was also IMO a good monitor, and then some folks from RGB started their own monitor company, Ceronix.
I do recall at one time hitting the processor board of a Fortune 1 with a probe, and suddenly I had a monitor that showed like 16 hands on one screen.  It was pretty cool, and reminds me of the 50 play and 100 play hand machines that we now have.  Wish I could duplicate that....
Also wish I'd gone with Sy when he started IGT, but I chose instead to go up to south Tahoe, and work in casinos and chase women.  Oh well....

I posted the one bad pic I had but I took a few more of the inside. It has the 3 boards above the monitor and only markings is the fortune coin on the glass so ill go back tonight and post the rest of the pictures and see if that helps. I thought it was a fortune I but my best guess is it is actually a pre- IGT fortune coin.

Is there an I/O board with 4 LED's behind the hopper in the left corner?  With a flaky ribbon cable connector?
