Title: WBA 11 ss just stopped working
Post by: crgadyk on October 29, 2011, 01:38:54 AM
I had a fully working WBA 11 ss in an IGT S+ machine as of a couple days ago. Now when I turned it on tonight, it sounds like its going to start cycling but stops immediately after it tries to start. If I open the head up it will run so it acts like its stuck on something. I found the manual online and ran through a couple of the tests but I don't really understand what the tests are telling me.

If I do the accepter head/stacker test (dipswitch 4 on) I get 6 blinks. When I look at the error chart, 6 blinks tells me it is "Pusher unit trouble in the cash box" and that I should run test 7. When I run test 7, it looks like PLEV and PT1 are blocked (shows a light on) and all of the rest are unblocked (no light). I don't know what to do after that. I didn't see anything in there that tells me what that means or what I should do to fix it. I had a guy coming to pick up this machine on Sunday for his mom's 75th birthday but I guess she'll have to play it with quarters since there is no way I can get parts here in time.

Does this make sense to anyone? I'm lost and I don't know where to go next. When I put dip switches 5,6,7 and 8 on to initiate self calibration, the unit cycles normally and even pulls in a bill but spits it out since its looking for calibration paper instead. So I thought it could be the motor not working correctly but that wouldn't make sense since it will take in a bill and both the forward and backward rotation tests were successful. Hopefully someone can shed some light into my darkness  :279-

Here's a few things you can try...
The heck with those tests.
You can't get parts in time anyways.

1]Try jiggling around the connectors going to the bill acceptor.
Could be a loose connection or an oxidized pin.
Spray some electronics contact de-oxidization cleaner spray
into the connectors, blow dry them and shove them back in.
The pins are probably straight because you didn't take the connectors off.
    Or did you?
If you did...one is bent now.
Find it and straighten it out.
2] Take out the cash box and push it back in fully.
2.5]Take out the cash box and push it back in fully...
but this time, make sure the screws are tight.
3] Check the transport out, blow some compressed air into the
sensor holes and whatnot. Do NOT use any alcohol wipes.
They only cloud up the optics and make things worse.
4] Bang on the left side of the cash box and big bill acceptor bracket.
5] Clean any optics with more compressed air on the transport.

Now put the dip switches back where they were before
you started fiddling around with them.
They worked before, they will work again.
You and I have no idea what they do but I never touch them.

Power up the machine and cross your fingers.
That's all I care to know about DBV's
and one of these usually works for me just about every single time!  :72-

If you gather all your parts together and you drove an hour you could get parts today.

Thanks for the offer, I was out at a disc golf tournament a couple hours from home. Just got home and starting to look at it again. Here to hoping it works  :52-

Ok I tried all of the things that bunker suggested and no luck. I don't understand how it can suck in a bill if I put it into auto calibration and put a bill up to the opening. It will take the dollar in all the way and then spit it back out. So its physically capable of pulling in the bills but when I turn it on with everything back to normal, it sounds like it can't cycle on and sounds like something is stuck.

Should I be assuming that its a sensor issue and not a physical motor issue? I cleaned all of the sensors in the head with a qtip and a little water since I know just about anything else makes things worse. Is there anything else I can try or should I just assume that its broken and I tell the guy that his mom will have to play with quarters at her party. I'm up for trying anything at this point, I just don't want to keep wasting my time if I don't know what to do and potentially cause bigger issues. At least the machine is playable at this point with coins.

So far me talking to myself on here is working. I can now make the WBA cycle on and accept bills successfully. The weird part is that I have to push down on top of the head while turning on the machine to get it to cycle on and run. If I don't push on it, I get the one click like its trying to cycle and then nothing else. If I don't push down hard enough or in the right spot, it does like a half cycle and then the validator won't work when you shut the door. But I can recreate the working condition repeatedly by pushing down on the metal cover on the top of the head while turning on the machine.

Anyone ever heard of such a thing? Would that be the head itself going bad?

I'd check the connection between the head and transport. Might be dirty, corroded or have a bad solder connection

I cleaned the plug really well and looked it over and it looks fine. I can get it to work if I push down pretty hard on that top board while turning on the machine but thats obviously not normal. I put out a WTB in the classifieds so hopefully I can just replace the head and be done with it. This machine will be the death of me yet.

Take out your WBA cash can, look inside the cash can housing. Do you see those two little metal tabs all the way in the back bottom of the housing? Take some needle nose pliers and gently pull them upward. Now reseat your cash can and see if you still have problems. You might have to repeat this process and pull those tabs up a bit further until the WBA cycles successfully.
