Title: igt s2000 coin-in error
Post by: mrpepster on November 01, 2011, 10:31:46 PM
I have an IGT s2000

About every 5th coin, I get a  Coin-in error....call attendant

I hear the coin drop in to the hopper, it doesn't register and I get the error.
Opening and closing the door clears the error and the slot is back up and running.

CC-16E is the model number of the comparator.

So far I've just blew the unit and optics with compressed air but no joy.

Is my comparator going bad? dirty optics? needs adjustment?

Any good ideas on where to start?

Thanks!

Could be a comparitor going bad, dirty optics or the coin not falling cleanly through. Try cleaning the RX/TX eyes on the optics and, with the door open,  make sure the coins fall through with out hesitation to the coin tray

Check the coin guide and make sure it matches the coin size, so if the coin guide in the optic is too big it will over shoot the optics and give the error you are getting.

often you will see $1 coin guides in there and you are trying to use a 25 cent coin.  The coin will miss the optic from bouncing around, you can modify the guide with some plastic etc.

might not be your issue but what we look for first when getting this error.

Ok, I've cleaned the optics and still not that great, had a good run of about 20 coins, but the started to happen more frequently.

I checked the coin guide, the entry bezel is about 1-1/4 inches, but now that I think about it, are you referring to another plate above the comparator? how wide should it be?

The black plate that is before the optic, only a quarter should be able to pass (if you are using that denom)

The coin pass thru and the guide settles the coin down from moving around.

Post a picture which will help us see what you have going on.

There is a guide at top too that stops the coin from going behind the CC or in front but you would not get the error you are getting if that was your issue.

Good thought Slotmaster! I've actually had that problem before and didn't think of it. A nickle insert will work for quarters to, by the way. The black optics inserts are labeled, molded with the amount, as to what they're made for :259-

Ok, will check tomorrow, I'm an early riser.

But I did check the set up for small coins and it does appear to be correct. The only coin guide I can see is the coin bezel where the player inserts the coin.  The manual says it should be right for small coins and on the left for large coins, that i'l have to check. It is a quarter machine, so I'm assuming it's correct, but i'l have to double check.

Inbetween the two circuit boards on your optics is a black plastic insert that guides the coin in front of the Receiver/Transmitter eyes. To check it you have to take the optics out then seperate the two boards to read the size stamping on the black plastic insert. While you've got it out you can use a dry Q-tip to clean the suface of those eyes

Oh! Ok I saw that when I cleaned the optics, saw the numbers but didnt pay that much attention, thought it was a part number. I'l check and let you.what the numbers are.

Basically the large token black plastic inserts sandwiched between
the coin-in optic boards - don't have any guides really.
The ones you want have a molded guide that makes the pathway
slightly narrower for nickels and quarters.

My problem was the installed insert was for half dollars, but same issue. Every few coins in would trigger the error.

Bingo! I mean Jackpot!

You guys called it :131- , I have the 50 cent insert.

So now for the fix, do I modify what I have or can I order the correct one from somewhere?

Thanks!

I'd order and install the correct one, but as a short-term fix you can use something to shim your existing insert to force coins over a little more so that they're always crossing all three optics when they drop through.

Should be on the way thanks to Samron slots!

I have a feeling the previous owner used a shim as well.  When I was checking the optics, a small plastic piece fell out and I couldn't figure out where it went, nothing seemed broken.  Now that I know better, it probably moved out of place during shipping.

Thanks again fellas! I'll let you know how it goes when I install the part.
