Title: Flickering LED Display - S+ Machine
Post by: John0813 on January 12, 2009, 01:51:26 PM
I have an IGT Gold Mountain Slot Machine (S+). Recently the the LED Lights on the front panel and the candle went out. I removed the power harness and had a new connector put in...now my coin lights (Credits, Winner Paid, Coins Played) do not stay lite but flicker....Also the bulb behind the .5 cents went out.....Any ideas on how to fix the Flicker???

Based on other replies...... I replaced the bulb, I installed a new power haraness over the weekend, checked the door for bent wires, and cleaned the pins. Unfortunately, the problem is continuing......???

Are there any other ideas to help me solve this problem.  Thanks in advance.

In my experience when the denomination light goes out and its not the bulb it usually means a short or a loose connection with the motherboard.
Check for coins under the mother board - (the fixed board where the MPU goes in). Secondly remove and reseat all the connectors on the motherboard these become oxidized over time.
I had one that was particullary bad and it showed evidence of burn/melt on one of my connectors. I simply took off the connector, and cleaned the pins with an eraser and its been good ever ince.

does your S+ have a bill acceptor?  Is the display panel located along the base of the reel glass? or is it located on the right hand side of the reel
glass?

when all this happens does the rest of the machine work?

Usually when the denom ligrt does not work and the bulb is good points to a 7vac missing (provided all your wiring is good)

That light should be on even if the rest of the machine is down.check the white molex connector on the motherboard--wiggle it as you observe the denom light.(aslo if this connection is bad your reels will free spin)

There are two connectors on the motherboard that are the same size, if you removed those I would suggest changing them.

:103-  john   what ohio gaming is saying  J-6& J13 are both 6pin con.  J5& J14 are both 7pin con.  j6 is used for bill validator plug,J5 is used for the meters.  j13 is a printer plug and I have never seen it used,  J14 is a reels plug and I have never seen it used.  two plugs on the display board  1) j-69 denom, inset, coin lamp 7vac  2) j60 bgnd +vb ddo dclk stb1  ----p60  goes into  j203 which goes into p203 then into j1(on the motherboard)  pin 25  then into the processor  board  p2  pins 26a 26b .for the +vb.  the ddo, dck, stb1  go from p60 to j203 to p203 to j3( on the mother board)  pins2=ddo, pin3=dclk,pin4=stb1,then into the proccesor board p1 pin23a= stb1, pin23b= ddo, pin22a=dclk. hope this helps you .  if you unplug the meters and the bill validator that should clear up any interferance. I have seen the plugs in the wrong place but it usually kills the displays completely.

The J13 printer plug...IGT made this for S+'s , and I've seen it on schematics in an IGT manual.
However, I've never seen an S+ printer.
I wonder what signals are coming out of that J13 header....I'd like to see if it would connect to my ICT printer.
Maybe it would work using an S2000 printer?

The S2000 uses two protocols for internal I/O Senet and Netplex.

Netplex devices: VFD, Printer, Bill Validator, Spectrum II, Top box bonus computer/display.

SENET devices: Door and Cabinet I/O boards
Door I/O board handles player buttons, coin acceptor, coin optics, door optic, LED Display, multi-denom player buttons.
Cabinet I/O back lit reels,  cabinet optics, hopper, jackpot reset switch, handle release and switch, jackpot bell, stand drop door switch.

The reels, communication board, progressive link, and speakers in the S2000 have their own connections on the motherboard.

Did you ever hook up a S2000 printer to an S+,...... like you would on a S2000?

Not yet
The only way I see connecting a printer to the S+ via its printer connection is to logic probe or oscilloscope the connector and see what it is doing and when.

Yes,
I'd like to see what signals are coming out of that plug when I hit the cash out button. :103-
If it's just an open/close signal,
then that would be just what an ICT printer needs in order to print a ticket. :89-

However, if it's all sort of logic/SAS mumble jumble signals :5-,  then it's no good.... :8-

Found this diagram of the plug in the S+ manual we're talking about>>>
