Title: what dies in an S + power supply? Post by: CYRIL1973 on November 13, 2011, 05:13:21 PM Hi,
I have got 2 non working S + power supplies. When I swapped them with a good known one, the machines work properly. I checked the non working ones and apart from the 4 fuses ( 3 at the front and one inside) which I tested, they still did not work. What could be tested next? Do transformers die? Feel free to tell me what you be defective. Thanks a lot. Title: Re: what dies in an S + power supply? Post by: poppo on November 13, 2011, 06:08:19 PM Try swapping the fuse holder caps. If the trasformer died, you would most likely smell it.

I tested the fuses from a working power supply but it still did not work. Cyril Title: Re: what dies in an S + power supply? Post by: poppo on November 13, 2011, 06:30:26 PM Thanks for chiming in. I tested the fuses from a working power supply but it still did not work. Cyril But did you swap the fuse holder caps too? If they are bad (and they do go bad), it doesn't matter if the fuses are good. Title: Re: what dies in an S + power supply? Post by: CYRIL1973 on November 13, 2011, 06:38:49 PM I took the fuses out of the working power supply with their holders and put them in the other two power supplies but to no avail. Only the lights come as well as the BV which cycles.

Post by: CYRIL1973 on November 13, 2011, 06:54:07 PM This cable is ok because when it is plugged to a known good power supply the machine works properly...
Title: Re: what dies in an S + power supply? Post by: poppo on November 13, 2011, 07:00:51 PM Just for grins, take a look at it and re-seat it on the motherboard side. They can be intermittent if burnt.
Also if you have a meter, I would check those fuse holders for continuity on the inside of the power supply (with the machine unplugged of course). There just is not much to go wrong with the PS. Did they ever work? Are they wired for the proper input voltage (i.e. 115v not 220v)? You can also check the individual secondy voltages. Title: Re: what dies in an S + power supply? Good night ( it's 10:07 PM here) Title: Re: what dies in an S + power supply? Post by: brianfink on November 20, 2011, 05:57:15 PM I have had a couple of power supplys that had the line filter go out. They only cost a few bucks and are easy to replace. I really dont know how to test a line filter but they are pritty easy to swap with one you know is good.
