Title: Info req DBV-145-SH
Post by: Matt1999 on November 19, 2011, 02:20:41 AM
Can someone give me some information on my bill validator? It comes from a Bally S5500 with a bill stacker.

DBV-145-SH
ID-044
V3.05

Dip Switches:
1- On
2- On
3- On
4- On
5- Off
6- On
7- On
8- On
9- Off
10- Off

What type of bills will it accept?

It's been a long time since I've used a DBV145, but based on the DIP switch settings you've posted, your acceptor will currently only accept $50's and $100's (see attached). Considering the fact that many acceptors were set to take everything except fifties and hundreds, is it possible that you've read your DIP switches backwards? :103-

At any rate, all switches should be off except #8 on SW1 to allow all bills to be accepted.

The 145's only accept bills in one direction: face up with the head pointing to the right, and won't take the newer color bills.

It's really been too long for me to remember exactly which bills version 3.05 will take. Someone else might post with the specifics or you might try searching the forum for past threads.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks. I was afraid of that with the dip switched. I am sure I read them correctly since there is actually a label for OFF. I purchased this machine from someones home. Maybe they didn't want anyone to use bills? It's a dollar machine, though, so finding a dollar coin isnt easy.

All of them will have one side labeled (either on or off). However, there are typically two types of DIP switches, those with slide switches and those with rockers. The position of slide switches is easy to determine; it's the rocker switches that can be confusing.

Those are the type where you push one side or the other down into the switch using the tip of a pen or small screwdriver. With those, the switch is set to the side that is depressed, not the side that is flush with the top, so it's easy to read those backwards.

If you set all of the switches off except for #8 on SW 1 then the machine should take all denominations, as long as the machine denomination is set to $1 or less. Try a $1 bill first and then try older bills for the larger denominations if you've got them. Let us know what happens.

I am trying to get my bill validator working, while I waiting for a new reel to come in because a reel error.
I have not been able to get it to change to green. Can anyone recommend anything?

DBV-145-SH
ID-044
V3.05

What would be the correct jumper setting on the MPU? Jw3 sw5 & 6
=================
JW3 sw5 - sw6 Bill Acceptor
sw5 sw6 Value Bill Acceptor
ON ON 00 No Acceptor
OFF ON 01 GPT / JCM DBV,IBA,SRA
ON OFF 02 JCM CBA
OFF OFF 03 Reserved
==================

I have also completed a complete clear, many times. I all of the JW3 sw 5 &6 setting except for OFF OFF. I presume it would be OFF ON.

Thanks. It remains red with these jumper setting and a complete clear.  I've check all of the cables, cleaned the validator and stacker. What other steps can I take to troubleshoot?

I got past my reel errors. I worked with the bill acceptor some more but no success. I have a few issues.

#1 - The gear on the bill acceptor that connects to the gear on the bill stacker is very difficult to get to connect together. The only way I can get it to work is to shim the back of the bill acceptor up so it touches the gears closer and that does not work all of the time. Any suggestions? I can post some pictures if it would be helpful.

#2 - The bill acceptor is still red. It never turns green.

#3 - I can feed in a dollar bill and it goes all of the way in (when gears are aligned just right) but it ejects it and does not credit. I have run the "03" bill acceptor tests and receive codes "ff" ," 14-0" and "14-1" throughout the test. I am not sure what those mean since they do not seem to correspond to any codes in the Bally S5500 manual.

Any help is appreciated!

{added pictures of dip switches with new settings and stacker}

Thanks.

you are missing the slide plate on bottom of bill validator this makes it mesh with transport gear

Thanks. That explains why I need a shim.
Any ideas on the error codes or why it never turns green?
I'm considering purchasing a DBV-200 ID 044P/045P but they are not easy to find for a reasonable (cheap) price. Mostly IGT versions are available.

Paul, I tried your settings. It may have helped a little. The bill acceptor is still red but it did pull in the dollar all of the way in and held it for a few seconds before ejecting it. I had a 2009 dollar to test with.

Paul,

So far it is the same result. Thanks for the help. I decided to forget about the bill validator for now and convert the slot to a nickel with a new coin comparitor, coin head, pinwheel and shelf wheel. The machine was difficult to credit with only (2) dollar coins, one in the comparitor and one to credit. Unfortunately these parts cost me more than the entire Bally Blazing 7's Progressive slot machine.  :5-

If you would have bought a machine with all that stuff in it in the first place -
you wouldn't have had these problems... :96-

Ahh...the love of finding a new hobby!   :72-

Glad you got it all going!  :89-  :3-
