Title: display communications error Post by: slotsx2 on November 19, 2011, 10:21:58 AM Every day I get this same error message ( Display Communications Error )
I open and close the door and it goes away all day. It only happens during the night. I did a search on Google and NLG and didn't find anything. Anyone know what this is? Thanks, JR Title: Re: display communications error Post by: staz on November 19, 2011, 11:39:45 AM you really got bad luck with slot machines lol.......try swapping mpu's
Title: Re: display communications error Post by: slotsx2 on November 19, 2011, 12:08:28 PM Both of my S2000's have enhanced MPU'S which are more ppricey than the 504 boards. I will keep opening the door every morning until it dies before I put my only backup MPU in for that reason...
Thanks, JR Title: Re: display communications error Post by: Foster on November 20, 2011, 05:50:50 AM I suspect the machine could not communicate with the VFD
Check the harness and connection to the VFD. Look at the harnesses between the door and machine. Make sure none of it is getting pinched in the hinge. Now basic troubleshooting of a machine, if you have a known good machine that works 100% you take a suspect board, chip and place it in the good machine and let it stay there so you create the conditions that cause the failure (sitting over night and getting warm, etc) This accomplishes 1 of 2 things after you test the boards involved. You find the bad board or harness. Only swap one part at a time and put it back before testing the next part. MPU, VFD, motherboard, and PS if they all work perfectly then it is the harness between the motherboard and VFD YES there is some risk involved. I can say this I have never killed or damaged a good part by swapping them into a machine that is having a problem. Title: Re: display communications error Post by: slotsx2 on November 21, 2011, 02:15:50 PM Now it goes from Diaplay Communications Failure to no di 5P
I tried swapping MPU, power supply and the VFD. try the harness next I suppose??? Thanks Title: Re: display communications error Post by: cowboygames on November 21, 2011, 02:33:15 PM What type of machine is this? Standard S2000 or Vision? If it's a vision, where is the error displaying? And if it's a vsion and the error is on the VFD, what's the LCD showing when you get the error?
Title: Re: display communications error Post by: Foster on November 21, 2011, 02:56:17 PM The "no disp" means the mpu is loosing communications with the VFD.
The "no disp" I suspect is showing up on the 7-segment LED player display. I would check the green wires going to your VFD they come from the motherboard to that point Harness would be next. Title: Re: display communications error Post by: brianfink on November 22, 2011, 02:14:48 AM I would try swaping the vfd board first then the cabenit i/o board but as many problems as you seem to have you might want want to change out your wireing.
Title: Re: display communications error Post by: slotsx2 on November 22, 2011, 09:27:56 AM Just got out of bed and the display problem on my S2000 is still gone??? The display problem seems to have disappeared as strangely as it appeared. I don't know why it began or why it went away on its own, but it hasn't come back again.
Will wait and watch..... :103- Thanks, JR Title: Re: display communications error Post by: cowboygames on November 22, 2011, 12:51:43 PM I don't know if they're related problems or not, but on my Denver Duck if I don't turn it on for a couple weeks it loses the touchscreen calibration memory. I use 1270 boards and it seems to have something to do with the rechargeable battery getting low on those boards because within about 15 minutes of turning the machine on it will hold the memory fine and if I turn it on once a week it never has that problem. I don't know, just one of those anomaly things maybe
Title: Re: display communications error Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 22, 2011, 01:04:00 PM It sounds like you guys may need to boost the mAh capacity of your batteries with a battery mod holder?
I know that certain Bally machines benefit from the battery mod. Seems like your games are losing their minds... :5- Title: Re: display communications error Post by: slotsx2 on November 22, 2011, 01:46:01 PM So far, still ok..................
Mine stays on 24-7 and it has a NEW battery in it. Title: Re: display communications error Post by: Foster on November 22, 2011, 08:50:45 PM IF they do a battery mod
Replace the Verta battery with 3 AA NiCd or NiMH batteries do not install a diode. Sounds like you might need to replace the battery in your top box computer. |
