Title: Pink Panther Topper Help
Post by: nWo Hogan on December 10, 2011, 02:33:43 AM
Hello everyone ! I'm a newbie here, Happy Holidays :)    :88-

I have a problem with a machine I just purchased. Its a Pink Panther I got off of e-bay.I'm having a problem hooking up the Topper. It came with a missing Netplex board :(, so I purchased one off of e-bay with the required harness and now I have a problem connecting the wire off of the Topper,to the Netplex board. It looks like both ends of the Molex are Male. I have 4 wires coming out of the topper,Black,Red,White and Blue. I am totally lost here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much

I deleted your double post as it is best to post in one area only to prevent confusion and answers spilt over multiple areas.

You may need a cable inbetween your topper connections and your distribution board. Someone should chime in and help you with more details to help you out.

Though your fingers are blocking us from seeing which wires are going to which Molex connector -
I know that the square 4-pin Molex connector plugs into the Power Distribution board on the second row of headers ( J2, J3, or J4)
You can plug it into any one of those three headers.

The other Molex is for the candle.
There will be a Molex connector harness coming from the back left hand corner of your topbox.
It is capable of holding 6 contact pins ( two rows of 3 pins) but they put them together using only three pins.
Fits one way only - that's a no brainer.
One wire is the common ground.
Another wire is the live wire for the top lamp in the candle.
The remaining wire is for the live wire for the bottom lamp in the candle.
That's why there's 3 wires.

Finally, don't forget to attach the braided ground strap to one
of the mounting bolts under the topbox ceiling.

Hey Bunker ! Thanks for the reply. I got the candle working, thank you. But as for the Topper, I'm still having the same problem, because the end of the 4-pin Molex connector is the same connector on the Power Distribution board. I have 4 wires going into the Molex Connector, with the colors Black,Red,Blue and White. I'm wondering if I'm missing another plug that goes in between the  4 pin Molex connector to convert it and make it fit into the Power Distribution Board ?

That's possible...there may of been a direct harness connection with
a different cabinet harness at one time if this game was changed.
In other words, maybe before there was a different harness going to that topper straight from the motherboard?
Maybe there's a connector hiding somewhere in the mass of wiring that runs up the back left corner in your machine?

Anyways, you're going to need that harness or some sort of
a short female-to-female adapter harness for the Power Distribution board.
I don't know if that was ever something Tripp plastics or IGT made?
I'm not certain who actually made the toppers.

If you have the right pin extraction tools, I'd pull the pins from the topper's male Molex,
swap it out with a female Molex
and plug it right into Power Dist. board.

If you don't have the tools, then you have a couple of choices.
You can take the topper apart, remove the wiring we're talking about,
send it to someone and they can change out the Molex out for you.
Removing the wiring would save a lot on shipping costs.
We're talking just shipping some wiring rather than the whole topper!

Or you can place an WTB ad in the "Classifieds" section of NLG
and see if anyone might have this "adapter harness"
or I could make one for you.

I would need very clear pictures of the colored wires going into the back of the Molex housing so I can try
and determine which wire goes to which pin on your harness.
From there, I could easily make you an female-to-female adapter harness.

Try placing an WTB ad 1st and see where that takes ya!  :89-

Hey Bunker ! Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I checked the back left corner of the machine, but nothing. Making an adapter sounds like a perfect solution. I can either cut the 4 pin male molex and wire in a female Molex plug or pin,but I'm not sure which pin would go where on the Power Distribution Board ?
I just purchased a Power Distribution Board, with two harnesses for each side of the machine. But if I remove the plug to the right of the machine, and go with the harness that is required to power up the Power Distribution Board, it would eliminate a set of wires going into the back of the LCD screen :(
I included a lot of pics of the harness,Top Cabinet and power supply. Thank you

Good pictures...thanks for putting them up!  :3-

Now, from what I can see, the red & white wires are for to power up the
LED Marquee Control circuit board that's in the back wall of the topper.

The black & blue wires look like they are going to the round fluorescent lamp's ballast ( the square-ish white box )
I did some searching around and found a partial wiring diagram on the internet but it doesn't seem to show what wires are for the topper.
Also, there are a few versions of the Pink Panther...I think one is called "Pick A Panther" but I don't recall the other games offhand.

Anyways, the fluorescent ballast like yours are normally powered up with 25V orange & black wires.
It bewilders me why yours is black & blue?
Also, I don't know what voltages the red & white wires from the LED control board are using at the moment.
We do not want to overpower anything and fry your Marquess Control board...those are not that readily available as
I haven't seen a whole lot of those circuit boards floating around.
I have to do some more digging around to see if I can find the right wiring schematic for your topper.
Look at the drawing I've attached below and you can what I mean as it looks incomplete -
I wish it included your topper...
We need someone that actually has one of these hooked up to jump in and give us a hand...

Someone on ebay was selling a Suzo-Happs topper
and I noticed that it had a yellow sticker underneath showing
all the voltages of all the wires.
Does your topper have this sticker?  :103-
The wires are like yours but they're blocking the sticker from my view.

I found a sheet on the topper wiring voltages!  :267-

Hmm...yours doesn't have the yellow wire...or orange for that matter...drat.  :8-
