Title: INstalling S+ chip in S2000; SS EPROM INVALID 0xF011
Post by: RICKF on December 12, 2011, 03:01:15 PM
Hi

I installed a S+ Game chip SS7289 in a S2000 504 rev B motherboard.  I have a steeper base chip SB001000 and version chip VS009GX0.   The GME chips are SG000363.

I am wondering if the version chip is wrong or if the speed of the SS chip is too slow, its a 27C64 200.

Can anyone deciper the error code?

Thanks

The only way to know for sure is to remove that label from the SS chip and see what device it is.
That chip is NOT an OEM chip.
It's someone's copy.

Report the numbers/letters imprinted on the chip
and we can tell you if it is the right chip for your game.

okay...I didn't see that you posted the chip.
200ns is too slow for the S2000.
You'd be better off with a 120ns or 100ns chip of at least 512k in size.
Hope this helps.

Hi

I removed the tag on the chip and it has NMC27C64Q 200 pribnted on the chip.

Thanks again

Rick

sorry,
I didn't get to finish my last post.
I was trying to say that I use chips that are at least 512k in size and of 90ns to 120ns in chip speeds.

I don't know what "0xF011" means.
Sounds like something wrong with data on a certain address line in the binary?
No idea.

yours is 64k in size.
What I do is copy & paste the data 8 times to fill up the larger chip when I make a back up copy -
or start the data at address line 4000.
Make sure all the rest of the chip is "FF" 'd out.

SST makes the best electronically-erasable chip...
I personally like the SST27SF512 chips...no messing around with an UV eraser.

I got this kit off ebay top, belly glass with strips and chip.  I'll get a faster chip from a different source and maybe I can make this game work.

Thanks again

Why don't you just put a SB100055 in and and get rid  of the SS chip?

:212- makes life easier! Plus you can possibly pull enhanced sounds depending on the game theme.

SOB  For what it's worth I usually offset a 27C256 4 times to replace a 27C64.

Yup! Sounds right...
The 256k chips might be cheaper too.
Do you know offhand what ns speeds those 256's were?
Most PSR's give the recommended chip speeds if I recall.

Mark They are 120s

Thanks Buzz,  :89-
I was pretty sure they work in an S2000 with speeds anywhere around 90-120ns.
I found that important when shopping for blanks.

Anyways, coorslite hit the nail on head in this thread which I've completely forgotten about -
why not use the proper SB chip for the Haywire game?  :72-
Good catch coors!  :3-

HI

I like your idea on using the SB100055 chip

Thanks Again

If you need to buy another chip...Why not buy the correct one for the game !!
