Title: Back lit reel problem
Post by: lindam1 on December 15, 2011, 10:24:19 PM
I'm converting my Double Diamond Run Vision to a backlit setup. I have all the harnesses and control board. (photo's attached). I have 2 reel harnesses. One has 2 molex plugs other then the reel plugs (1st pic) the other has 2 molex and a black plug (2nd pic). the second only has 3 wires on the larger of the 2 molex plugs and the other only has 2 all are red. The black plug uses all but one of the pins (15 of 16). If I use the 1st harness 4 lights are lit all the time, 2nd reel 1 & 3, 3rd reel 3 & 5th reel 2. If I get a hit where the reel lights should flash only the lit reels flash and then come back on and stay on. If I use the other harness I get nothing. My control board is suppose to run 3 or 5 reel PN 76936300. hope someone is a vision expert.

For what it's worth, my 5 reel Cleopatra uses your top harness (1st pic).
I don't know what the second harness is for?
Maybe an I-Game harness?

Are ALL your backlit reel lamps good?
None are burned out?

I'm gona check now.....but would that cause some to stay on ALL the time, even when game is idle

Most, if not all, of the backlit reel lamps are "ON" but somewhat dim.
They should not be bright, bright until the game's program shoots
the extra voltage needed to light them up.

If "some" are bright when they shouldn't be (as in idle mode)...then it's very possible the
wrong wattage bulbs are in those particular sockets?
A lower wattage bulb mistakenly installed will be brighter
than what is supposed to be in there.
whoever sold you those backlit reels maybe filled the sockets with bulbs just to complete the sale but perhaps didn't check to see if they were the right ones?
This is pure speculation on my part...I could be wrong.

You hit the nail on the head. I have 5 spare reels, so I swapped  # 5, and they were all on. guess I have to relamp all 5
Thanks you were a big help. I thought they would all be off and flash on a hit. again thanks a bunch

Your harness with the 16 pin black plug is for LED backlit reels

Bunker, this makes it obvious to me that you do not have a iGame.... They don't have reel harnesses in them! ha ha ha just kidding with you! :262- :262- :280- :200- :208-

Someone already identified the harness, so all I could do is interject humor!

I Googled about backlit reels staying on bright and found this new thread.
All the lights on my backlit reels stay lit and are bright not dim. What broke on me now?????

More than likely your backlight control board went to crap. You're not using LED lights with a standard harness or controller are you?

Swapped it with the one from another working machine, not the problem. Uses standard bulbs..

Hmmm, could be the cabinet IO card or a shorted circuit board on one of the reel light boxes I suppose. Was it working right before this happened or is this a new install? Are the reels using the xenon 359 bulbs?

I swapped out both I/O cards. Using standard 359 bulbs. It was working fine when it began...

reel light boxes??

There are only 2 types of shadow boxes for reels, they're eithr socketed for incandescents or circuit boards with chip LEDs. The LED reel harness has one opaque molex connector to the light controller and one black. The incandescent has 2 opaque plugs. You could try starting the machine with only one reel plugged in at a time to see if the problem prevails. Maybe you have a shoted shadow box
