Title: Phamtom of the Opera Back-lit Reel Question
Post by: IFFV68 on December 22, 2011, 11:13:18 PM
I received a  SB-100005 two coin chip For my Phantom.
Question is,
I know the reel strips are Back-lit , but when using the  SB-100005 chip & hitting an  award the reels don't light up.  They  do the Mystery nudge & the sound is correct.  Is  this normal?

When using the SB001000 injunction with the SS8189 the reels mystery nudge & the Back-lit reels light up. Of course the sound is Legacy. But the three coins  works.
i have a Phantom three coin & a two coin while using different chips, i have two different  games using the same three coin glass. If that makes any sense??

Any help would be appreciated.

I didn't think POTO was a backlit theme.  Bettorslots has a video of the 2cm version on his site and it doesn't light up.

S2000 version of that game is not backlit.  If you have backlit strip they are probably EI strips.

The strips I have look like any other factory back-lit  I.G.T. strip I have.
I had a couple of E.I. Munster strips & the backs look quite different.

thanks for the help.

Pardon my dumbininity, but why can't any s2000 be changed to backlit. My D/D run was plain when I got it and I changed and added everything I needed to make it backlit and it works fine.

Are the strips numbered and marked igt at the bottom of each strip ?  I have non backlit games in machines with backlit reels and they light anytime there is a hit even thou the strips are not back lit as in a r w b deluxe . NOW ASKING A STUPID  QUESTION . ( DO YOU HAVE BACKLIT REELS ? CONTROLER ? HARNESS IN THIS MACHINE ????)

I have the whole works, and it works great. I wasn't cheap or easy to find everything. I had to change the reel glass, and get the controller  the 9 digit readout for the left side of the glass, backlit reels and new strips and all the right harnesses, but looks and works great. I also see that slotstores.com has a Phantom and his add says it is backlit and it looks like an s2000, but how can be sure by looking, may not be.

If the strips are truly backlit designed, no problem.  If they were not intended for backlit reels, you'll get light shining through, and it looks awful.

SO are you saying in the same machine with the same strips and glass the ss chips light up and the sb chip does not ???

Some SB chips do not have the Back lit data.
Example: Phantom of the Opera

Some SB chips do not do Back lit properly
Example: Wild Cherry only turns on the center row even when wild cherry symbol is on a position line, but Triple Double Cherry is example of that theme group that does it properly.

PLUNGER BOY   You just gotta explane this statement to me.  If you have non backlit games, how come the reels are lighting up when you get a hit??   :103- :103-

Here's another one I have to question.

"When using the SB001000 injunction with the SS8189 the reels mystery nudge & the Back-lit reels light up. Of course the sound is Legacy "

The only times I have ever had trouble getting enhanced sound using a SB001000 base chip and a SS chip. I was trying to use a 8 MEG sound simm. I have a Double Jackpot Haywire with a ss chip and a DSV00042 and works fine.

I didn't know the sound Sim cards come in different meg sizes...  :129-
What sizes do they come in or are there any compatibility problems with certain chips because of their size??

Mark  Sounds simms in a S2000, I've only seen 8 and 16 meg.  You sent me a list a couple of years ago, some of the simms have the meg size and most don't, take a look at it.

I don't think this has ever been brought up, but there is more to a sound simm than sounds. I have the DJ Haywire and a Double Diamond that I made into a DD Haywire. With a DSV00042 installed, the reels act different when the machine haywires, a lot different. ( DJ Haywire has a SS chip, DD has a SB chip )

Couple of years ago I bought 4 DSV00026 (8 MEG) off Ebay (RAZ) Installed one in a machine that had a SS chip, it sounded OK nothing to rave about. Installed the second one in another machine with a SS chip, got no enhanced sound at all. Figured I had a bad simm ( I didn't) I ended up putting the working board and simm from the first machine into the second machine, it didn't work either. Ended up reinstalling the first board and simm back into the first machine now it wouldn't work. That is the first and only time I've got a 8MEG simm to work with a SS chip, and after if was once removed it never would work with a SS chip again. ( works fine with a SB chip)
