Title: Bally E-2226 must be reset every time it is turned on
Post by: DCM1519 on December 26, 2011, 07:04:38 PM
I have a Bally E-2226 that must be reset every time it is turned on.  If not reset, the reels will spin without stopping when a coin is inserted and the handle is pulled.

This is not a major problem but I would like to fix it.  Any ideas about what might be causing this?

Everything else is working fine after all of the help that I have received on this site.

Thanks

Hi DCM1519

I'm wondering if its a mechanical or electrical problem :103-

How long do you let it sit while off before you try to turn it back on?  If a few days than I'd think its sticky reel locking solenoids in which case you just need to clean & lube them.

Cheers,
Mark

The machine usually sits for several days and sometimes several weeks without running.

I did not think of the solenoids sticking but that makes sense.

Early in the year, I lubed everything that I could reach easily but cannot remember seeing anything to lube on the solenoids except the shafts.  Other than the solenoids and the handle assembly, I think that every thing else got lubed with the proper lubricants.

I could not figure out how to lube the handle assembly without tearing it down so only lubed parts easily reached without disassembling it.  I was not sure I could get it back together properly if I took it apart.

I did not take the reel assembly completely apart but did remove it from the machine and took the reels out for easier access to parts inside of the assembly.  When I got the machine, it had minor problems but nothing that cost anything except some lubricants.  After lubing it and adjusting the reels, I ran very good until the recent problems with having to reset it before using it.  Once it is reset, it seems to be running very well, thanks to all the help given by members on this site.

It looks like I should now take apart whatever is needed and go over the solenoids better than before.

Thanks for taking the time to offer help.  It is a good suggestion and I will try it and see what happens.

What does your Win Meter display when it
does this ?

Sometimes my E2000 will require
a reset on power up but the display
is sorta garbled.

A reset fixes it and it plays flawlessly.

This when I seldom played it.  Since
I've been playing it more often...
The issue went away. Perhaps my
battery needed a good charge ?

Its sounding more & more like an electronic problem.  I had sticky solenoids in the past and once they freed up it was just fine for the day.  But my display was not garbled like Litterbox described.  Garbled display is definitely NOT sticky solenoids DCM1519, so maybe you are better off to just leave well enough alone and continue to do a reset when you want to play it.   If had to guess though I'd say the power-up reset circuit on the MPU board is the culprit.

Cheers,

Mark

My display is not garbled.  For a few weeks, I have been resetting it at startup and from there on, it works perfectly.  I would just like to keep everything running well so would like to fix this minor problem.

Thanks

Does the win meter show an error number on the first pull? I had a Bally Gold that would show a error 71 on the first pull, and only the first pull. i changed out the power supply PCB on the back wall and the problem stopped.. I put it in a different machine and it works in that one, but when I put it back in the Bally Gold the problem returned?? I tend to think that a lever or pivot point is freezing up when not played for awhile, but after the first pull it frees up. So I would double check the small links and pivots on the reel assembly first...

After thinking abouit your responses, I started the machine again this evening.

It does give an error message after all.  The message is Code 91: Position error (2 of last 8 spins reel #1).  I have not found anything in the Bally E-Series manual about what this means and how to fix it but will go over it again tomorrow.

Reel number 1 had another problem when I first got the machine.  It was error 41.  Moving the reel reader did not cause the error to transfer to other reels.  The problem turned out to be the adjustment of the reel spacing between the reader and the reel.  I could tell by just looking that it was far more than 1/16th of an inch so adjusted all of the reels to a proper setting and the error 41 message went away.

Thanks for causing me to remember the error codes being shown on the display.  Soon, I hope to fix this too.

Sounds like you are looking in the right direction.  I'd recommend you perform Test #5 the Reel Reader Test.  Thats a good tool for troubleshooting this kind of problem.  Take your time, concentrate on only 1 reel at a time so you don't get confused.  Look for consistency in how they all perform.
