Title: IGT S+ - FRYING Q9 on cpu
Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on December 29, 2011, 01:48:03 PM
have an IGT S+ that fries the Q9 after I get the 61 and reset to 61-1 -  the machine has/had one of those autofills and Q9 is for the change light which I guess is used for the autofill.  There are wiring mods to the tower light and looks like the door change light switch - not sure why it would FRY - anyone?

At location Q9 on an S+ MPU is a L2004L3 sensitive gate triac
( I think there's a pack of 6 of them together in that area) which is is a bidirectional AC switch
and is gate controlled for either polarity of main terminal voltage -
which I think controls the power for the re-fill hopper or the candle?
I am NOT sure on this but I'm suspecting a crossed wire somewhere shorting that triac switch out
because of too much current overloading the triac.

I'd be digging around maybe in the candle harness or auto re-fill harness that runs up to the candle?
Undo that candle harness momentarily, empty the main hopper
and see if it shorts out the triac when the auto re-fill hopper goes into action.
If nothing shorts out, then you've narrowed down the problem to somewhere in the candle harness.

See if any of those particular wire covers are cut open
and shorting out against the cabinet wall or on each other.
Normally breaks in wiring harness occurs where there's a bend in the harness,
but it could also be a badly taped up connection in the modified candle harness too
and wires inside the taping are touching.

thank you - I have disconnected the tower light which has wiring that went to the autofill (I have removed the autofill completely)  but there some wiring going to the door which are not familiar to me - there is wiring that is jumper - so I am going to remove the jumper too.  Just wanted to make sure I was on the right track with the Q9

Yes, those are all good ideas.
It's best to keep the machine familiar and simple so the customers that buy them,
don't keep on calling you back everyday...lol

I've never had an auto-refill hopper but I can't see any homeowner really needing that unit anyways.

i disconnected the tower light and the jumper at the door (black and black/yellow) with a 60983100-a jumper.  Not sure which one was causing the issue but i didn't fry another board (i use bad boards anyway so there is no loss other than that SMELL)..

"that SMELL" lingers around for awhile...stinks doesn't it?  :72-

I've burned more than my share of IC components one way or another!  :97-
