Title: Williams Dotmation issue got me stumped
Post by: tollguy316 on January 08, 2012, 02:17:38 AM
I have a friend with a Williams Dotmation Magic Lamp  machine.   The machine works great except that he is unable to adjust the settings ( volume, reel speed, etc).  He is able to push the red cherry button to go through the options ( ie. sound 1,2 and3).  He can turn the Jackpot reset key to move from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd digit of the volume.... But when he hits the "Spin reels" button to chenge the digits ; he gets the BUZZ sound.   The "Max spin" button works fine to check the volume.   The same scenario happends when he attempts to change the reel speed.    There are NO credits on the machine... Any ideas ?????? Thanks, Bill

Just going off of memory, Bill, and I've never run into it myself, but I seem to remember reading in the manual some kind of smart sound setting where the volumes would sort of auto set themselves based on just one of the levels. You'd have to check the manual for more detail. I don't see why that would prevent changing the reel speed, however.

Is there a card cage switch? If so, maybe open the card cage prior to trying to make the changes?

Open the logic door then hit the red button and use the settings to change the volume.

Also you must have ZERO credits on the machine to make any changes.

Bill I got pissed off at a Dotmation because it was to loud and would not set at a lower volume, I soldered a 47 Ohm resistor in the speaker wires.

This kit has 3 individual settings....  There is no card cage switch; just the 2 loose wires ( I have a switch on my board and I disconnected the 2 wires and was still able to alter the volumes; so the switch shouldn't come into play with this persons machine).     Thanks for your input Kev.                   Posted by: Slotmaster

.................Slotmaster....There is no cherry switch or lock on the logic door; so the logic door is open.   I had him cash out the credits before we tried the volume options ( for the record; I have a Jackpot Party installed and can change options with or without credits.....just in case anyone was wondering If that can be done).....Any other ideas Slotmaster??? Thanks for your input also.     Does anyone thinkit could possibly be the PCU  board ??? Thanks, Bill

Is there another set of software you can try on the problem machine to isolate the issue to that particular game, or that particular machine?

Are you in the same area as the machine that you can go there and try installing the software of a different game to see if the problem follows the software, or is your friend too far away?

Bill got my slot up and running and we can't thank him enough. I really appreciate all the help from everyone! The sound problem seems to be a weird one. Mabey It's because magic lamp is boaring so they think the high volume will keep you from falling asleep? Haha. Thank you once agin to everyone!

Kev... it's Queentoad ( Mike) and he's in California....  nowhere close to my neck of the woods.   I suppose a resistor on the speaker wire would work; but I'd like to find out the underlying problem.   Bill

I can try the resistor but I think I'll hold off till I try a different game. I'll still pick one up though just in case. Anyone know what one to get?
