Title: Wow! I can't see! I've lost my lights !!!
Post by: stayouttadabunker on January 09, 2012, 06:26:05 PM
I did a very complicated swap yesterday.
I changed my machine from a 10-button deck, 5-reel flat top, multi-denom Cleopatra to
a 5-button deck, 3-reel round top, single denom Vision Ms.Little Green Men w/ LCD computer and backlit reels.

Believe me, there was a lot involved including changing out harnesses, I/O cards, and reel shelves.
The entire swap took me about 3 hours... it was a lot of fun!  :97-
Hey! It's dead winter here and I shelved my skis long ago!

Every thing works except ONE thing... :72-
I have absolutely no fluorescent lighting power!
Off of the harness that comes from the door is a 6-pin Molex (exiting the harness) right near the back wall of the cabinet.
I suspect that this Molex is to route 25v power to the door belly fluorescent as well.

I can find no other 6-pin male connector in that area that would supply
the orange 25v power needed for S2000 fluorescent ballasts.
Where does this 6-pin plug into? Did I forget a possible short extension harness perhaps?
Could someone take a look there and see what it's connected into and the other end?
It's been over a year since I've had the Vision installed... I forget things too!   :5-

By the way, I'm in the market for a long 3-reel shelf if anyone has one for sale...Thanks!

Bunker,

You know the rules, If you replace your 5 reel cleo kit with a vision kit, you have to send me the cleo kit!!!!! :89- :89- :89- :89- :89-

CaptainHappy :95-

I got this idea from your top award rule...... :299- :299- :299-

hey bunker,  according to my vision book ,the power comes from the power supply to a plug, that plug in turn goes up to j-233  power plug to the top box and looks like it splits off and goes over to the ballast for the top door lamp and then onto the belly ballast.

the vision top box shows a connection from the DC power plug into the ballasts.

trace the belly and door ballast cable back toward the back wall and see where it goes.

orange/ orange-black tracer should be the +25vdc.

Uh uh!  :60-  You guys already have made the Written Rules for NLG!!! :131-
I make the "unwritten rules" around here!  :200- You can't change 'em!  :37-  :97-

I did that Jim.
Tracing the orange/black belly ballast wires was the FIRST thing I did.
It led to an open 6-pin 2-row Molex about 4-6" short of the top left "Door Senet" (J2) motherboard connector.
I thought it might split to go into the motherboard but it doesn't.

This one is stumping me like an elephant stepping on my head...
I'm going trace the reel glass ballast right now but I think offhand - it runs into another
connector branch molex on that same harness?

Which power supply are you thinking of here Jim?...>>>

"...the power comes from the power supply to a plug, that plug..."

ADD>>> I was right...the reel glass ballast is on the same harness - just another Molex branching out to it really.

Now, the "J-233" - is that one of the Molex's in the junction box up on the back left-hand side
over the power supply behind the reels?
Short video clip posted now...>>>

Bunker take a picture of the 6 pin connector

There is a 2 pin Molex connector it is a slightly larger version of the optic connectors, it is power connection for the fluorescent lights.
It is is in the wiring harness that runs across that back wall.

Here's a snapshot of the two connectors Foster.
I lowered the junction box tray and the whole thing is pretty much hanging over the power box there.
I pushed it all to the right for the picture only.
Normally it's all shoved in the back left corner there.

You can see both connectors are in the same harness we're talking about.
The 6-pin is closer to the motherboard while the 2-pin is closer to the junction box between the topbox & cabinet.
Should the 2-pin go up to the small power distribution board in the topbox? It's not that long as you can see.
If it does, than I might be missing a topbox harness to the junction box?

I've taken this Vision machine apart and transformed it into so many different games and configurations -
I've forgotten how it originally goes! lol
I have four different topboxes but have used pretty much only a couple of topbox wiring harnesses for all of them.
I just keep moving them around.
All harnesses are pretty well mixed up now! lol

i think you're getting close! :3- i believe that Foster was referring to the connector you are holding up with your middle and index finger in the picture.  there should be a mate somewhere in the harness for that one.  i've seen that connection give a seasoned slot tech hours of  :128- :7- :277-  followed by  :299- :199- :291- and finally  :140- :154- :198-

I think I have the answer.
There's a 2-pin orange/black Molex laying in the topbox.
That MUST go down to the 2-pin in the cabinet right?

Ohh...I'm gonna blow something up tonight.... :72-
I must have pushed the 2-pin down one time.... to make room for the top box printer!  :299-
There's a small rectangular hole in the hanging junction box
that would fit the housing of a 2-pin Molex perfectly....  :209-

 :98- :98- :98- don't you just love the smell of burnt electronics.  :72- :97-

the coloring sounds right on the wires for the connector you found in the top box.  since you're just trying to test your flouros you could pull the power input plug from the motherboard to protect the mpu and everything else in the machine if you're worried. :hide4-

I was told once to NEVER to heed the advice of another tech....lol
I will break all the rules tonight though!  :72-

For my 1st magic trick! (~ Mystery music playing~*)
I will shove a multimeter into the two holes with the orange/black wires !  :93-

:81- don't just shove your whole multimeter in those two holes man!  use the probes to ease on in there...better chances of return visits  :96- :97- :97- :97-

wait a minute!!!  you already said you were breaking all the rules tonight so... :190-

:72- You're nuttier than me kforeman! You better take a break & grab a cuppa coffee! lol

I have topbox fluorescent lights now!
I plugged into the topbox power distribution board's 24v outputs BUT....

I still don't have reel glass or belly lights yet...arghhh!  :37-
I still don't have juice going into that 2-pin on the door harness.
momma said there'd be days like this...

I hate it when my S2000 looks like this!  :97-...>>>

Also what wire colors are in that 6 pin connector?

Also use your ohm or diode/ continuity mode on your meter to be sure those go to the 2 door ballasts (do this test with power off)

I cant find any 6 pin hanging around like that in my S2000 I have looked high and low in it.

I SOLVED the bloody problem!!!!  :136- :185- :92-

Also what wire colors are in that 6 pin connector? All orange and black ones for 25v.
Also use your ohm or diode/ continuity mode on your meter to be sure those go to the 2 door ballasts (do this test with power off) I did that already.
I cant find any 6 pin hanging around like that in my S2000 I have looked high and low in it. You don't have one and I don't know where I got this from.

No wonder you can't find it Foster! Nobody has one!
At least, not that I've ever seen yet! Arghh!!!
Where the hell did I find this bloody thing?
Thanks for trying though man!  :3-

The friggin' harness was the problem!!  :18-
In my hand in the first picture is two harnesses.
The two Molex's in the left-hand side of my hand ( both 2-pins male & female housings) are from an S2000 harness made in 2003. (500-0)
The two Molex's on the right-hand side of my hand (the 2-pin & 6-pin) are from a 2007 harness! (501-A)
THAT'S THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE!

When I swapped the game from a 5-reel Cleo to a 3-reel Ms.Little Green Men - I figured I might as well change harnesses too?
All-Time Dumb Move THAT was!!!!! :25-

All I gotta do now is install the 2003 harness with the 2-pin Molex housings and we'll have lights!

Question now is...where the heck did I ever get that other 2007 harness and what the hell is it for?
I can't find it in any of my wiring schematics or drawings?!?!?!
I'll betcha it's a bloody I-Game harness or something because I've never been inside an I-Game/Reel Touch!!!
Must be for the extra computers or rings lights around those things.

The 2nd photograph is the number tags off of ( excuse my french...lol) these darn things!!!  :72-
