Title: E-bay..right place right time!!
Post by: coorslight115 on January 10, 2012, 01:43:52 AM
It pays to look around on E-bay for some strange stuff at off times. I nabbed this a little after midnight on New Years Eve. Buyer did not plan well with it being a holiday week and auction ending while the new year was ringing in. Also he did a first that he usually does not do and listed it at a real low teaser starting bid. $29 dollars !

I snatched it at the last minute as the only bidder. I know he had to be pissed.... :30- :8- The cheapest I have seen one go for is over $300 and as high as $900!

Granted it is a little over kill for the average user but I do not have to worry about buying bulk chips that need erasing ever again !! :208- :208-
It will hold 84 average chips at a time and done in 15 minutes or less !!

Might cook a pizza to  :181-...have not tryed yet  :103- :103-

Great to get a steal now and then .... And it works perfectly

And best of all was his packaging....It came in a RubberMade storage tub full of styrofoam peanuts !! Can't say I have ever seen that before !!!!  :60- :60-

Just nice to post a positive E-bay outcome sometimes !

It's to erase the eprom chips in your machine so you can rewrite them.

In a similar vein - I'm finding it extremely difficult to erase National NM UV eprom chips.
I've had both an NM27C64 and an NM27C512 in my eprom eraser for over an hour.
When read...they still show data on them and blank checks fail every time!  :37-
The checksums keep changing every time I read them so I'm corrupting the heck out of them
but I am failing to set all the internal logic gates back to the same number (one or zero... I am not sure really...)
What a PITA!!!!  :47-

I have found the little window needs to be real clean, no spots or haze. The shadow cast by an imperfection on the lens affects many areas of the erasable media. Beyond that you have already spent more in the electric bill running the burner than the blank is worth!!

That's a very likeable plausible possibility coors!
I think you're on the right track considering these ones have years of dried tape adhesive on the glass -
By the way is now case-hardened to the point where it could very well
withstand the load of Buzz's semi tractor-trailer standing on it!    :hide3-

I usually scrape the eprom surface with a razor blade at a nearly flat angle to scrape the gunk off. And then I clean it up with a Q-Tip and alcohol.

My secret tip that I am willing to share here is..... When I am labelling an eprom I cut a little square of paper or label backing just a little bigger than the window and I put it under the label to keep the stickie stuff from getting on the window! Feel free to send royalties if you like my idea! :208-

You actually DO  that?   :46-    Whoa! That is Awessome!  :89-

I just use a 2 row paper labeller that is sticky as heck.
I'm always in a big hurry  :301- :273- :288- and just want to cover up that window ASAP & get it in the machine!  :96-

So, I'm totally guilty of gunking up my UV windows!  :8-

Goo-Gone in the little metal can works wonders on cleaning adhesive residue off of ICs. It comes in a can that looks like the old school Ronsonol lighter fluid.

Just wait until you try some Hitachi 27C4096G chips. The window is smaller than the die so they can be a bitch to erase as you need light coming in at an angle.

If those chips still don't want to erase, try programming them with all zeros then erasing them again.

Oh, and nice find! I have 3 of 'em here that I use since I sell so many EPROMs.
